31DC2013: Day 17 Glitter

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Morning!

Today's prompt in the 31 Day Challenge is Glitter! There is something about this prompt that really does not spark much creativity. I probably could have tried a little harder, but I did this late last night and this was all the creativity I had in me :P

I started this manicure off, knowing that I wanted to do something in a black, blue and silver combination. I pulled out my standard Wet n Wild Black Creme, my new blue crush Essie Butler, Please and my favourite silver glitter China Glaze Glistening Snow. I used Black Creme on my thumb and middle nail, Butler, Please on my index and ring nail and Glistening Snow on my pinky.

Then I grabbed my silver holographic glequins and got to work! I just did random designs on my three middle nails and then dipped my thumb and pinky in the pot to get some disco ball nails going on.

I'm not sure, there just seems like something is off about these nails. They aren't my favourite, but maybe you like them?! Let me know your thoughts below!!

Digit-al Dozen September Spectacular: Fashion

Purchased by Me

Afternoon my friends!

Wow! Today is the last day in the Digit-al Dozen's September Spectacular! It is a bittersweet moment for me, on one hand I am happy it has come to an end because now I can get back to posting only once a day! The past two weeks have been a little nutso :P On the other hand I am sad to see it end because everyone has been knocking it out of the park! It has been a lot of fun to recreate past themes, it goes to show that there are endless possibilities within a single theme!

Today's theme is Fashion, it is the week that we most recently did this past August. I ended up going for a simpler look with some standout accent nails!

This look was inspired by this outfit that I found on Pinterest! Here is the image of what it looks like,

I would totally rock this outfit, and since I do not own pink pants, or a fully sequined shirt with an anchor on it, I was forced to create the look on my nails! On my non-accent nails I started off with Pure Ice Flirt Alert to match the pink pants!

For my accent nails I started off with Color Club Beyond and then freehanded some anchors in in Color Club Harp On It. I chose to substitute sequins for holographic polishes because I felt that it still gave off that shine, without having to hand place glitter!

I really like my anchor nails, and maybe I will have to bring them back in some form sometime! What are your thoughts on this look?

The Digit-al Dozen September Spectacular: BLING!

Purchased by Me

Afternoon my loves!

Today's post is another in the Digit-tal Dozen September Spectacular, this time we are recreating the theme BLING! We did bling week back in May and I seriously loved that week. I had a lot of fun creating blinged out manicures, especially because I was still on crutches at the time and it had been over 3 months. The bling nails made me very happy!

For this blingy manicure I wanted to do a skittle, because well I love skittles. I had China Glaze Escaping Reality sitting out on my desk and felt a strong urge to pair it with a holographic print and some gems! I started with Creative Fantasy on my thumb, index nail and pinky. On my middle and ring nail I started with Color Club Harp On It.

On my thumb I used Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes to freehand the zebra print and then I added a gem from Born Pretty Store. My index nail I freehanded the diamonds with Harp On It and then outlined them with Never Enough Shoes. My middle nail was a gem filled nail using big silver gems from Born Pretty Store and some 3mm rhinestones I had in my kit. On my ring nail I freehanded some random shapes of Escaping Reality and then added another gem. Finally on my pinky I used the same gems from Born Pretty Store as well as some small black rhinestones.

I had fun wearing these for the day that I did! Doing all these nails really isn't allowing me to enjoy them as much as I would like! lol Alas such is the nature of these challenges! What do you think of these pink blingy nails?! Would you ever wear something like this?

31DC2013: Day 8 Metallic

Purchased by Me

Morning friends!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday! Today's 31DC2013 prompt is all about metallic nails. I love the look of metallic polishes, but I really struggled coming up with a design for todays prompt. I actually scratched 3 manicures yesterday before coming up with the idea of doing cogs in gold, silver and bronze!

I started off my manicure with Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes, which is a black with flecks of gold, silver and bronze throughout. Then I started freehanding the cogs using Essie Penny Talk, Essie Good As Gold and Essie No Place Like Chrome.

I loved this look, but it was screaming at me to be matted. I pulled out OPI Matte Top Coat and matted away!

As much as I like this glossy, I think I like it even better matte! The cogs really pop against the black background. I wish I didn't have to take this off to do another day! Alas that is the nature of the challenge!

What do you think of these cogs? Do you prefer this matte or glossy?

Mint Manis For Talia Joy

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Goooooood Evening lacquerheads!

I am very excited to let you all know that I am DONE my thesis! YAAAY! This means I am one presentation away from being done my undergrad :) Hopefully this means more time for blogging now :)

Today I am participating in Mint Manis For Talia Joy, honouring the life of the bright, young, amazing girl, Talia Joy Castellano. The idea for the mint mani theme was inspired by Talia's last Instagram posting, which was a mint manicure post featuring the hands of Talia, her mother, and her dear friend Tammy. For those of you that don't know Talia, she was an extremely talented 13-year-old makeup artist and YouTuber, who was battling two kinds of cancer (neuroblastoma and preleukemia) since she was diagnosed at only 7 years old. Despite all this, she still managed to keep upbeat, motivated, and overwhelmingly positive.

I started off with my current mint crush, China Glaze Highlight Of My Summer. I've worn this so much already that I may be needing a back up bottle someday. On my middle nail I started with China Glaze Glistening Snow and on my ring nail I used Cult Nails Tempest.

I freehanded the drips using Highlight Of My Summer and a striping brush then added the details using black and white creme. On my ring nail I first added the stripes with black creme and then added the large and small rhinestones because Talia loved a little bling on her nails.

You can share your mint manis for Talia on Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, etc. with the hashtags #MintManisforTalia and #TaliasLegacy. You can also add your mani to the Inlinkz collection below. I'm really excited to see what everyone else has come up with in honour of this beautiful and talented young girl who was taken from the world too soon. Keep Talia's family and friends in your prayers! <3

Neon, Glitter and Geometry

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Morning friends!

Today I have a quick post of some fun nails I did a few weeks back. These were quick and easy and geometric, right up my alley no? lol I hope all my American friends are having a great fourth of July today!!

I started off with China Glaze Glistening Snow which is an out of control holographic silver glitter that is one of my favourites. I then grabbed Pure Ice Jail Bait, Pure Ice Free Spirit, Pure Ice Flirt Alert and China Glaze Hanging in the Balance. I took my medium length striper brush and freehanded on the triangles in random patterns.

Please excuse the state of my nails in these pictures, I had worn these for a few days before I was able to take pics and there is some wear and tear on my index nail especially! I loved being outside with these. Holographic and neon? Can't get much better :)

I really like geometric looks and this one is no exception. What are your thoughts on these nails?!

The Digit-al Dozen Does Books: Bookshelf

Purchased by Me

Morning lacqueristas!

I'm back for day 3 in The Digit-al Dozen's Book Week with a little bit of a different manicure than the past 2 days. My last 2 book manicures were based on children's books while todays manicure is based on books itself!

At home I have a bookshelf just filled to the brim with books, but I always admire bookshelves that just have really special books on them and then beautiful bookends on either side. When I finally have my own house I want to have a bookshelf somewhere with my favourites and some gorgeous bookends.

For these nails I started off with Cult Nails Tempest the best white creme ever! Then I freehanded on Read in Pure Ice Silver Mercedes to represent my bookends. I did them in silver because I was going for a platinum look. On my thumb I did a reverse gradient using Cult Nails Happy Endings. Then I started making my books. I used a lot of colours which I will list below!
Ardene Chic-kita
Nailtini Grenadine
China Glaze For Audrey
China Glaze Secret Peri-wink-le
Essie Mesmerize
Essie Pretty Edgy
China Glaze Gothic Lolita
Lime Crime Milky Ways
Revlon Sorbet
Cult Nails Evil Queen

I love bookends and actually really enjoyed wearing these! I didn't want to take these off at all :)

Do you like these bookends? Do you showcase your books anywhere in the house with some beautiful bookends?

Make sure you check out the rest of the Digit-al Dozen's book nails!

Fizzy Geometric Cucumbers

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Morning Friends!

Silly blogger was supposed to have this post up last week, but it did not schedule it properly! So better late than never I thought I would share this creation with you.

I actually did these as a guest post for Lisa of Nail Polish Creations while she was vacationing in New York! You can find the original post here :)

My base for these is etoile Polish Fizzy Cucumber which is one of my favourite spring colours and is currently residing on my toes! The black geometric design was done freehand with my It's So Easy Strip Rite Black. I was imitating a sweater I saw a girl on campus wearing one day. The black on my middle nail is Cult Nails Fetish and the square studs are from Born Pretty Store.

I love this combination and geometric prints, well we all know those are my favourite! What do you think of these? Make sure to check out the original post here!

Gooooood Afternoon! I need a study break, so what better to do than write up a post for all you lovely people?! A Broken Skittlette

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Afternoon loves!

Today I have the first nails that I have done since I broke my ankle. Everything is crazy tiring so I wanted something quick that was going to look great to last for a few days. I ended up doing one of my favourite looks, a skittlette!

I grabbed NCLA AM: Beauty Sleep, PM: Shopping Spree because I'm loving pastels for spring and used that as my inspiration. I rifled through my stamping plates and found MASH-47 and this broken pattern seemed rather fitting for this manicure.

I used Milani White On The Spot and Wet n Wild Black Creme for my stamped nails. I have really been lemming Nicole by OPI Luke of the Draw from all the swatches I have seen out there. Unfortunately every time I went to buy it it was sold out! Luckily when I was rifling through my helmer I found Milani Gray Tux which seems to be pretty close to my lemming! It has satisfied me for now!

I really like skittlette looks and this was my first time putting two rhinestones on my nails like that. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did, so you will see this style of nails from me again soon.

I think that I thought with a broken ankle I would have time to do my nails, but honestly I am struggling huge with even painting my nails once a week. Also my nails are breaking like crazy as they sometimes bang against my crutches and I have super nubs with no free edge. My swatch pile is building up, but at the moment I won't be able to catch up anytime soon. So I'm going to be a little more sporadic with my posting until I am able to walk again. I hope you all understand!

Love you all!
