The Digit-al Dozen Does Art: Full Fathom Five

Morning! It was inevitable that this week would bring on some Jackson Pollock inspired nail art. It was actually funny all the girls in The Digit-al Dozen were complaining about this week being a rather challenging theme. So we all decided we would post our Pollock nails on Wednesday!

I spent quite a bit of time looking through Pollocks art work trying to decide what painting I was going to replicate. Finally I found one I really liked called Full Fathom Five which was done in 1947.

To replicate the painting I started out with China Glaze For Audrey and then splattered with Sally Hansen Ion, Wet n Wild Black Creme, Revlon Sorbet and Sally Hansen White On. Instead of using a regular straw I used a coffee stirring straw. I always find you can get smaller splatters, but sometimes that doesn't work as you can see on my index nail lol.

I quite like Pollocks artwork and actually would love to have something like that hanging on my wall someday! It also helps that this was much easier to recreate that some other art! ;)

I didn't my splatters quite a thin as Pollocks, but I am still loving these! Splatters are always so much fun to create, they're easy and such an eye catching look! I kept with my pinable image theme and created one with Full Fathom Five in the corner.

Halloween Splatter

Hey Guys!

Sorry for my absence over the past few days, Halloweek kind of became a bust on here. Last week I had some strange health things happen that kind of put me completely out of commission for a few days. I'm still not entirely sure what's up, but I am starting to feel a little better. So nails might be in short supply over the next while until I get back into a routine.

I did these nails right before I started not feelin so hot, some Halloween Splatter nails!

I started with a base of Milani White on The Spot and then splattered using a regular drinking straw with black creme, China Glaze I'm With The Lifeguard and China Glaze Orange You Hot? in that order.

I really like splatter nails and haven't done any in a long time! I enjoyed wearing these and really enjoyed how the neons splattered on the thinner side so that you could still see the black underneath. Totally cool.

31 Day Challenge Day 23: Inspired by a Movie

Inspired by a movie huh? There were so many possible designs that I wanted to do for this day. I had such a hard time narrowing them down. Finally I settled on a movie that I really love, American Psycho.

If you haven't seen American Psycho, essentially it is about a Wall Street executive who likes to violently murder people at night. He's completely psycho, but it's an awesome movie!

My inspirations for each nail were drawn from different points in the movie, and I actually watched the movie while I was doing them! Just in case anything else struck an idea.

My index nail is inspired by the cover of the movie. I used Cult Nails Evil Queen as my base and then did the details in It's So Easy Stripe Rite in Black, Red and White. I used NYC Sidewalkers for the knife. My middle nail is supposed to be blood splatter from when he does all those crazy killings. I used Milani White On The Spot as my base an splattered with China Glaze Vermillion and China Glaze Adventure Red-Y. My ring nail is swirl, because well he's psycho and I feel like that's a good representation of crazy. lol My pinky is a rose, because in one of the scenes a bunch of exec's are sitting around a table and there are numerous shots of bunches of roses, plus it fit in with the rest of the theme!

This movie is totally creepy, but it helps that Christian Bale, who plays the lead is smooookkiinn hot. Sooo good looking it's not even fair. :D I felt like since he's holding a knife in the cover I needed to grab a knife and use it as a prop...

...totally creeeeeppppyyy!!! On a side note, do not try using a knife as a normal prop! I was so scared I was going to cut myself somehow!

Abstract Nail Art Challenge Day 13: Combo of Two

Today is the 13^th day in the Abstract Nail Art Challenge! It seems so crazy that June is almost over and that this challenge is almost done. I’ve had a great time seeing what these fabulously talented girls have been coming up with.

The criteria for today is Combo of the Two. This means that any of the previous criteria can be combined to create a manicure. Let me tell you, this was actually hard! I kept going back to thinking of doing something with dots. But I do a lot of dotticures and I was trying to think of something a little different. I eventually settled on something I don’t think has been combined before! Splatter and V-Gaps!

This wasn’t exactly as I had envisioned it. I think I had imagined that all the nails would look more like my index finger, which was my favourite. Unfortunately I splattered the green last and it kept coming out in big globs so most of my nails looked green! Ah well I think the effect is still pretty cool!

The base and the V-Gap were done using my current go to white crème Sally Hansen White On.

I only wore this for about 24 hours (this seems to be the case with all of my nails these days LOL) but in that time I got a bunch of compliments! I really liked the primary colour combination. I think that this could look interesting in a bunch of different combinations and I already have another one planned!

How do you like my Splatter V-Gaps? Would you try something like this? Or is it a little too bold for your liking?

Abstract Nail Art Challenge Day 3: Splatter!

Today I've got the 3rd day in the Abstract Nail Art Challenge for all of you! The requirement for today was Splatter. Now I looooovee me some splatter nails, but clean up can be a bissssh. Especially when I decided to use the entire Color Club Take the Wing collection for this mani! 

I started off with 2 coats of Sally Hansen's White On. Then I grabbed the whole wonderful glassflecky collection and a straw and went to work. I had this idea where I wanted to use all 6 colours but in a sort of gradient across my nails. 

Here are the polishes I used to splatter on each nail,
Thumb: Daisy Does It (yellow), Sparkle and Soar (orange)
Index: Sparkle and Soar, Wing Fling (pink)
Middle: Wing Fling, Fly With Me (green)
Ring: Fly With Me, Metamorphosis (turquoise)
Pinky: Metamorphosis, Sky High (blue)


I totally loved the look of the glassfleck polishes splattered over white!! It was so cool looking! But as you can see there were a ton of glassflecks left on my skin that were ridiculously hard to clean off, so please forgive me for that :)

Once I was all done I topped with NYC top coat and was left staring at my lovely nails. I didn't really like my middle nail but the rest of them I thought were pretty cool! 


So I have a bit of a funny story to share about my NYC top coat. When Sammy from The Nailasaurus was raving about it I went out and got myself a bottle, or so I thought. I didn't realize that it was the In a Minute clear polish not just the regular NYC top coat. I was sooo frustrated with it and didn't realize why I wasn't having great results. When Emily posted about her love affair with it and posted a picture of the bottle I felt so silly!! I finally found a few bottles and snatched them up and seriously it is the best top coat ever! 

I think my index nail is my favourite splatter in this bunch! What do you all think?

Cocktail Brights Splatter

Good Morning!

Is it Friday yet? Nope Wednesday, damn. Well we're halfway there right?

Since the weather has been cold again I have very bright nails to share with you today! I was in the mood to do a splatter mani, but was unsure about what colour combination to use. So I headed over to Design Seeds and took a look at some of their combinations. I came across this one entitled Cocktail Brights and decided to go for it. Here is what the palette looked like.

From that this is what I came up with!

I wasn't sure what order to splatter my colours in so I followed from top to bottom on the palette. I started with Revlon's Bare Bones as my base. Then splattered Essie's Mint Candy Apple, Wet n Wild's The Wonder Yellows, Wet n Wild's Lavender Creme and finished with Essence's Let's Get Lost.

For those of you that aren't familiar with the splatter mani, it really is pretty easy, just takes a little time and a lot of mess. You start by painting a base coat. Then take a straw and dip it into a bottle of polish and then quickly blow onto your nail.Some people don't like dipping the straw directly into the bottle but instead dab some polish on a paper plate and then dip the straw in that. I'm OK with going right into the bottle. I found this time that if you aim a little off of your nail you get more of a splatter effect. When I was aiming right onto the middle of my nail it ended up being a blob on my nail and the cool splatterness was on my wax paper.

I really like how bright the outcome of this. Many people suggest that with splatter manis you should include black or white for definition, but I'm liking this without black or white! What's your opinion on adding black and white to splatters?

Ninja Turtle Paint Splatter!!

So I finally got around to trying a splatter manicure. First of all let me say that it was a hell of a lot messier and more intense than I originally anticipated. I wanted to take pictures of the mess and of my hands, but they were covered in so much polish that I was afraid to touch my camera! 


Here was the finished product! 

I absolutely love they way it turned out! I think it looks so cool! This was inspired by Chalkboard Nails and she said that the colours were inspired by Donatello, the purple ninja turtle!! If you aren't as big a nerd as I am here is Donatello,

In order to get this ninja inspired paint splatter I used, Essie's Mint Candy Apple as a base, then splattered OPI's Never Enough Shoes, Essie's Mesmerize, Green Striper and Sally Hansen's Psychedelic Purple in that order. 

On many of the tutorials that I have read for this they recommend using a straw that is smaller than a regular sized straw. So I found a very small straw that was only about an inch and a half long and extraordinarily skinny. This did not work so well for me. The polish ended up backing up into the straw because it was so small and I wasn't able to clean it out easily, which caused polish to get on my lips. HOT. Blue, green and purple on your lips is not the best look I have ever tried. 

However, regardless of the nail polish that I was finding on my arms for days I think this look is kind of amazing. I had someone at work stop me while I was explaining something in a meeting to ask if I did them myself. So funny. 

Overall this was SUCH a successful manicure. Although cleaning polish out of 10 cuticles is a bit of a chore. I will most definitely be trying this again, however with a normal sized straw! This way I won't end up trying to start a new fashion trend by wearing nail polish on my lips!
