Pretty and Polished Valentino and Dollish Polish Team Salvatore

Morning! I hope everyone is having a good Monday morning. I am on my last week of work! Only 5 more days then I get to pack all my stuff up and move back to Waterloo for school for the summer.
Today I have two indie polishes to show you. Last week I got some pretty epic nail mail! A package from Pretty and Polished and Dollish Polish all in one day! As soon as I got the mail I had to use some of them immediately. I picked Valentino and Team Salvatore, as I think these were my two biggest lemmings in the packages.

I started with two coats of Joe Fresh's Apple and a coat of China Glaze White on White on my ring finger. Apple was surprisingly a jelly creme finish, it was beautifully squishy but still opaque in 2 coats. Although this bad boy stains hard. When I took it all my nails are now stained red except for my ring fingers, and I used a coat of OPI's Start to Finish base coat, which has never given me a problem with staining before. For sure double up on base coat if you use this. Then I used Valentino on all but my accent nail, which I used Team Salvatore.

My only issue with this manicure is that I was so excited to put on these polishes that I wanted to wear two coats of Valentino and Team Salvatore. Next time I wear these I will probably only use one coat so that the glitter is a little more sparse on the nail.

I'm totally in love with both of these polishes. They are gorgeous and I am so on the black and white glitter bandwagon.

I love the black and white glitter over red, and Team Salvatore is such an awesome accent to this!

Dollish Polish is now on Big Cartel and she will no longer be announcing her shop openings due to the mad rush so check her shop every now and then to see what she has in stock! Her full size bottles are either $8.75 or $9.50 depending on what ingredients are used and the mini bottles are $4.50.

Black and White Challenge: Day 8

Morning!


This is the eighth day in our challenge, can you believe we're almost done?! It has been so much fun getting to know these wonderful ladies and seeing what they have come up with!  


Today's challenge is sponging with black and white. Do you ever sit down to do a mani and it is kind of born out of nothing? That is what happened here. Friday night there was a package notice on our door and when I picked it up yesterday my striping tape was finally here! I wanted to use is in some way. 

I started off by painting my nails with 2 coats of Sally Hansen's Celeb City which is my all time favourite  silver foil. I let this dry and then started placing striping tape in various patterns on my nails. Then I grabbed a makeup sponge and sponged on a layer of Wet n Wild's Black Creme, then sponged on China Glaze White on White, then went back to Black Creme and sponged on random areas and finished off with a few more random placements of White on White. Finally I took off the striping tape and added a coat of NYC top coat! 

I loved this! I reminded me of granite. I kept looking at it and wondered how it would look mattified. So I grabbed Essie's Matte About You and went to work! 

I love this even more matte! It looks really cool in real life and I got a few compliments on it already :)

Today I have some totally not practical nail art to show you. I'm entering these in the Lindsey from Neverland Nail Blog's nail art contest. The theme is Do You Believe in Magic? When I first saw the theme I thought of princesses and mermaids, but then I started looking at some of the other entries and there were already some awesome magical nails using those themes for inspiration. Then I started thinking about Harry Potter and Fawkes the Phoenix. I knew that I wanted to recreate him on my nails. 

I started with a coat of Wet n Wild's Black Creme on my middle and ring fingers. Then painted on the orange and yellow gradients using Essence's Wake Up and Essence's Wanna be Your Sunshine. I then painted on the head using Black Creme and did a reverse gradient with Wanna be Your Sunshine, Black Creme and Zoya's Kaufda on the head. On my index and pinky fingers I just started painting on how I wanted the wings to look. I used Black Creme, Wake Up, Wanna be Your Sunshine and Orly's Luxe. Then I grabbed some feathers and used NYC top coat to stick them into place. Then I placed 3 red rhinestones also using NYC top coat. Here is a close up. 

I wanted the Phoenix to look like his wings were spread and there was fire behind his head. I wondered how this would look in some of my other hand positions. 

So it looks completely ridiculous in any other hand position, but I love how it looks when it is all lined up :)
