February's Polish of the Month

Hello again!
Thought that this morning's post was all for today? Well since it's a super special day I thought it deserved two posts and you didn't think I would leave you hanging without a polish of the month did you?! Of course not :D

This month's polish of the month came even as a bit of a shock to me. I have never been a huge fan of on green's on my nails. However I picked up this Revlon recently because I wanted to try their Matte Suede finish and well I found it for cheap!

revlon-emerald-city

Now the initial application of this turned out that the finish of this polish is neither very matte, or very suede. I was really disappointted so I didn't even take a picture of this. I promptly went and got Essie's Matte About You and put it on top. Well. I LOVED this. There's a subtle gold shimmer to the polish and really making it matte just made me soo happy it was ridiculous. I even kept this on for a whole 3 days. That's a loooong time in my world.

There you have it! Another awesome polish out of my ever growing collection :)
Hope you're having a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Mini Tuxedo Men

Hellloooo! How are you all doing today? Excited that this day only happens once every 4 years? Well since today happens so rarely I decided to dress up my nails for the occasion.
I did the ever popular Tuxedo nails! Originally I was going to do them in all sorts of colours or try a powder blue tuxedo, but I kept looking at black and white and it just seemed to crisp that I had to give that a whirl first.

tuxedo-nail-art

Aren't they adorable?! I felt like I had these little men that were all sitting together waiting for their dates or something. When I finished these my mom noticed from halfway across the room what they were!

tuxedo-nail-art

The polish I used was 2 coats of China Glaze White on White then I took a black striper and made the V's on each nail. Then this was filled in with Wet n Wild's Ebony Hates Chris. Then I used my striper again to create X's where the bow ties are and then filled that in using a toothpick and Ebony Hates Chris. Finally I used a dotting tool and created buttons with Sally Hansen's Celeb City and Ebony Hates Chris.

I love these so much! Have you tried the tuxedo nail trend? Do you love it or hate it?

Until next time,
Sincerely Stephanie

For Audrey

Today I have a swatch to show you that was a major lemming of mine and I just couldn't seem to find it until recently, China Glaze For Audrey! This polish really is the perfect robin's egg blue that matches the Tiffany boxes rather perfectly. This colour really just makes me happy.

china-glaze-for-audrey

Look how pretty that is! This was two coats with no top coat. Application was smooth and this required very little clean up. Formula was really nice as well, not too thick and essentially no streaks even after one coat.

china-glaze-for-audrey

Since this is supposed to be a Tiffany blue I had to grab my Tiffany Box and do a comparison. The flash makes it look like the box is a little bit lighter, but in real life they are so close it's wonderful.

Scotties Curling Nails!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a spectacular weekend and that your monday was pretty good as well! For those of you that know me outside of the nail polish world you know that I have been curling since I was about 10 and absolutely love the sport. For those of you that have no idea what curling is, well it's an incredibly Canadian sport where we throw rocks at houses.

Not real houses, but the rings you throw towards are called houses.  Anyway last week was the Women's National Championship called the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. I decided to do some nail art to show my curling pride. (I'll even throw in a picture of me curling at the end of this!)

curling-nail-art

On my thumb I wrote Scotties 2012, my index finger is a rock, my middle is the symbol for the Scotties, my ring finger I was trying to represent some ice so I layered turquoise shatter and then silver shatter on top of that and finally did a broom on my pinky! Here's a link to the Scotties if you're interested in what any of that means haha :)

I thought they were really fun! I enjoyed having them as I watched the games and got a few compliments on them too.

Here are a few pics of me curling!

I hope you liked my nails even if you don't know what curling is! Have you ever curled? Do you do any weird sports like this?

China Glaze Wicked Halloween 2012 Collection

Hey Lovelies!

So pictures started floating around the internet last night of the China Glaze 2012 Halloween Collection called Wicked! So I thought I would share this will all my wonderful readers :)

Don't some of those look gorgeous! No swatches have surfaced yet, but from those pictures I am so excited for Glitter Goblin, Cast a Spell and Immortal. Glitter Goblin looks like a really unique glitter, so fingers crossed!

Which polishes from the Wicked Collection are you looking forward to?

Wet n Wild Megalst Undercover and I Need a Refresh-Mint

Today I have swatches of two polishes to show you from Wet n Wild's Megalast newly reformulated collection. If you read my post yesterday on the other polish I picked up from this collection you know that I can't stand the new Mani-Curve brushes that come with these polishes. They are so wide that the brush itself is bigger than my pinky nail. Since they are so wide it is hard to control application and I ended up with a mess of polish all over my nails.

First up, my favourite and the most interesting one I think, I Need a Refresh-Mint.

This polish looks like a lot of other mint greens out there in the bottle. Reminded me of Essie's Mint Candy Apple when I first saw it, but I still felt the need to pick it up at $1.99. That can't be beat. In darker light this polish looks like a dusty mint, which is very different than any other mint that I have come across. The formula is a tad thick, but nothing that can't be worked with rather easily.

Now in a different light the polish looks a little more green and less dusty than in my previous photo. It's pretty and not quite the same as any other mints. It looks like it has a little bit of a blue undertone.

wet-n-wild-i-need-a-refresh-mint

Now let's add some flash. In brighter lights this polish can look like a robin's egg blue! I have heard this is a close to dupe of China Glaze For Audrey, which was a lemming of mine and I finally picked it up last week, which was after I took these photos. I'll do a comparison on a nail wheel for you soon :)

wet-n-wild-i-need-a-refresh-mint

The other polish that I picked up was Undercover. This is a bit of a dusty pink with a romantic rose like quality to it. It was unlike any other pink I have in my collection and is a calming colour appropriate for any day!
wet-n-wild-undercover

wet-n-wild-undercover

I really like the colour of both these polishes and the formula really isn't all that bad. A little on the thick side, but in 2 coats will be a nice opaque shiny polish! If it wasn't for that darn brush! Oh well guess you can't win them all!

Until next time,
Sincerely Stephanie

Ahoy Matey! It's some Nautical Art!

Ahoy Matey!

Today I have some nautical nail art to show you! A few weeks ago I was teasing my boyfriend about getting him to paint my nails and he said he would help me come up with themes and I could paint them. He immediately suggested nautical! He said I needed an anchor and wheels and some of those life preservers. So here is it

nautical-nail-art

I used Orly's Royal Navy as the blue, I thought it was appropriate no? And then added white rings using China Glaze White on White with a nail art brush. Once that was dry I took China Glaze Vermillion and added the red parts of the life preservers with another brush. For the ropes I combined OPI Samoan Sand with Wet n Wild Shield and drew with a nail art brush. Then I took OPI You Don't Know Jacques and added the details on the rope. For the anchors and wheels I drew the original shape with You Don't Know Jacques and then mixed Wet n Wild's The Wonder Yellows with Samoan Sand and Shield and drew on the more sparkly details.

I had so much fun doing this nail art! I think I will be challenging myself and trying more freehand drawings soon! What do you think of nautical nails? Do you like to freehand your designs?

Until next time,
Sincerely Stephanie

You Don't Know Jacques

You Don't Know Jacques was a lemming of mine for awhile, and everytime I went somewhere that carried OPI they were sold out! So I finally bit the bullet and ordered one on eBay. I am SO glad I did. This has to be one of my favourite colours right now. It is a darker cool toned taupe. I think it is just such an elegant colour that could be worn in professional settings very easily. Another good word to describe it would be calm. There is nothing loud about the colour its just beautiful.

Formula and coverage were great for me. I needed 2 coats for full opacity, and all pictures are without a topcoat.

Lightning Tape Funky French

Good Morning!

Today I have a manicure that I did on my mom a little while ago. I had used Orly's Bailimo's on myself a few days earlier and she was obsessed with the colour so I decided to try my own twist on Lightning Tape manis that Jane from Nailside does so well. I decided to make it more of a french tip than extending further down into the nail. I used Finger Paint's Art You Wondering? for the tip.

tape-nail-art

Cute right? Since I was alot on a mattifying everything in sight kick at this time we threw a coat of Essie's Matte About You on top!

I love the look of this mattified! It gives a whole new dimension to Bailimos!

What do you think of mattified funky frenches?

On a Charming Trip

Gooood Morning! How is everyone enjoying their day off? Well I'm at work, but if you do have the day off I hope it is going wonderfully for you :)

Today I have a polka dot mani to show you

I did the whole thing with a dotting tool, so thats why my dots aren't all exactly the same size, however I am getting better! I used 2 coats of Wet n Wild's On a Trip as the base and then dotted on Revlon's Charming.

I actually created this mani for a contest being held by Michelle from Sonoma Nail Art. You had to create a mani with your favourite colour, mine is purple! She is putting all the entries in an album on her facebook page and whoever has the most likes by Friday will win! If you like my creation please like it on her page! :)

Until next time,
Sincerely Stephanie

Gold Coral Layering Experiment

Today I have a bit of an experiment to show you. I just started layering polish and glitter and then more polish and glitter and then threw in a flakie for good measure.

Pretty right? It ended up being subtle yet had a really pretty sparkle and shine quality that gets me every time. I used 2 coats of Barielle's Gotta Have Fate for the base then added a coat of LA Girl's Synergy. Then I layered Wet n Wild's Blaze over top of the glitter. Added another coat of Synergy and then added one coat of Essie's Luxeffects As Gold As it Gets.

I took a photo of just Gotta Have Fate and Synergy,

I love trying to layer different polishes! What do you think of this combination?

Until next time,
Sincerely Stephanie

Wicked Winks

Today I have some, uh interesting nail art to show you. The initial intent was to copy one of the tape manis that Jane over at Nailside has done, but I am not near as talented as she is at tape manis. BTW the title has nothing to do with the design, but the colour names. Keep reading!

Since the whole tape thing wasn't really working for me I ended up freehanding part of it and adding dots, then a matte coat and a luxeffects on one finger. It was well an experiment. Since I felt like such a failure with the tape I orginally didn't like this at alll. Then I saw people and I was getting compliments left right and center! Well here it is

Every nail is different, on BOTH hands! I'm getting mildly better with my non dominant hand yay!

There are a few smudges on this hand and the line work is far from perfect, but It was nice to have both hands looking the same, well as close as skittles can get :)

The polishes used for this mani were, China Glaze Secret Peri-WINK-le as the base and the detail work was done with Essie's Wicked.

Then after all this I added Essie's Matte About You and Pure Pearlfection to my ring fingers.

The more I looked at it the more I liked it. I think the dots helped in that department for me. I did love the colour combination though. I will be having a swatch-a-thon on Saturday and I think I will be swatching these guys :)

What do you guys think?

Until next time,
Sincerely Stephanie

Art You Wondering about Lightning!

Good Afternoon Lovelies!

How is everyone doing on this post Valentine's Day Wednesday!? Today I have a swatch of a polish I really like called Art You Wondering? by Finger Paints. This polish is a greeny teal micro glitter in a clear base. For me it applied fairly easily and only needing three coats for complete coverage. I find that micro glitters with clear bases generally require more than this depending on how thick your coats are.

As with many micro glitters if you don't take your time with the coats glitter can end up everywhere, so even after clean up I still had a little bit on my skin that just refused to come off!

Then I've been dying to try out my China Glaze Crackle polish as I had previously only used OPI's. Here is Lightning over Art You Wondering?

I was pretty disappointed about the lack of crackle on my later fingers. It started out great on my thumb then as I went along my hand less and less crackle happened and virtually none on my pinky. Hmm... not too sure about that. I do like the colour combo however and maybe with a different stoke technique it will crackle more? I'll look into it.
Please ignore the really odd skin tone of the next pics I took all my pictures in the same light and for some reason even when I tried to alter the colour my hands still look just odd.

And there it is! Hope you're all having a great day!

Until next time,
Sincerely Stephanie
