A Broken Skittlette

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Afternoon loves!

Today I have the first nails that I have done since I broke my ankle. Everything is crazy tiring so I wanted something quick that was going to look great to last for a few days. I ended up doing one of my favourite looks, a skittlette!

I grabbed NCLA AM: Beauty Sleep, PM: Shopping Spree because I'm loving pastels for spring and used that as my inspiration. I rifled through my stamping plates and found MASH-47 and this broken pattern seemed rather fitting for this manicure.

I used Milani White On The Spot and Wet n Wild Black Creme for my stamped nails. I have really been lemming Nicole by OPI Luke of the Draw from all the swatches I have seen out there. Unfortunately every time I went to buy it it was sold out! Luckily when I was rifling through my helmer I found Milani Gray Tux which seems to be pretty close to my lemming! It has satisfied me for now!

I really like skittlette looks and this was my first time putting two rhinestones on my nails like that. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did, so you will see this style of nails from me again soon.

I think that I thought with a broken ankle I would have time to do my nails, but honestly I am struggling huge with even painting my nails once a week. Also my nails are breaking like crazy as they sometimes bang against my crutches and I have super nubs with no free edge. My swatch pile is building up, but at the moment I won't be able to catch up anytime soon. So I'm going to be a little more sporadic with my posting until I am able to walk again. I hope you all understand!

Love you all!

Geometric Challenge Day 9: Mix and Match

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Evening Everyone!

I'm posting this late tonight so I can try to get tomorrows final post up in time with the rest of my challenge ladies! The theme for this post is Mix and Match. I mixed and matched square with triangular to get this funky print going on! I actually had the inspiration for these nails quite awhile ago and just decided to go for it, so that's why they are quite a bit longer than in my earlier 3D post which are more like my current stubs I've got going on.

I started with my go to white creme, Milani White On The Spot and then just kind of went for it with my smallest cut down nail art brush. I used all China Glaze polishes which I will list below.

I went one nail at a time just developing my random collection of triangles and squares(even though they ended up looking like rectangles, whoops :P) and once I was happy with the shapes I went back with some contrasting polishes and added some shading just to give my shapes a little more dimension.

The polishes I used for this Mix and Match look are
Milani White On The Spot
China Glaze Towel Boy Toy
China Glaze Ride the Waves
China Glaze Def Defying
China Glaze For Audrey
China Glaze Creative Fantasy
These took a looonnnggg time to do, but I was soooo happy with the result! They were pretty fantastic to look at en enjoy :)

I feel like most geometric designs are some sort of mix and match of shapes and you can such awesome looks by mixing and matching any of them!

Geometric Challenge Day 7: Polygon

Purchased by Me

Gooood Morning! I'm back with Day 7 of the Geometric Challenge, on time this time ladies and gents ;) Today's prompt is Polygon! There are sooo many types of polygons, but I decided to go with a hexagon theme.

Isn't this awesome?! I'm a little obsessed with using the watercolour technique lately and loved this ocean like base I came up with.

I started off with Milani White On The Spot my go to white creme and then added a coat of Seche Vite and waited until it was completely dry. Then I added dots using China Glaze Sunday Funday and China Glaze Fancy Pants from the upcoming China Glaze Avant Garde Collection coming out this March. Then using a fluffy brush and pure acetone I spread out the blues and created the watery blue base that makes me want to hit up a beach.

Once I was happy with my base I added another coat of Seche Vite then took black creme and my itty bitty cut down nail art brush and started in on my polygons. Once I finished with the black, it reminded me of fishnets! I had this idea to add overlapping white hexagons so I started in on those!

I just used white creme and the same teeny nail art brush to draw on the overlapping hexagons. I started on my index nail and I think I got better at it the more nails I did.

These took me forever and a day to do, and a tonnn of coats of Seche Vite, but HOW COOL DO THEY LOOK?! I seriously love themm :D

Which ones do you like better?! Just the black or with the white?

Make sure you check out the rest of my challenge buddies did for Polygon day!

Geometric Challenge Day 1: Square

Morning loves!

Today is Day 1 in the Geometric Challenge and the theme for today is Square. I had a bunch of different ideas sketched out but kept coming back to this image that I found on Shutterstock.

I was hoping for the optical illusion to come out a little more, but I think it still looks cool! I used my go to white Milani White On The Spot and then with my teeny cut down nail art brush drew on the straight lines with China Glaze Hanging In The Balance. Then I went back with Essence Walk On Air and added in the squares in each line moving each one back and forth slightly to to try for that slanted optical illusion.

I'm so mad that my top coat bubbled on these! I did them after a few swatches and I guess my top coat had been open just a little too long. Damn. These took a hella long time so there was no way that I was redoing these bad boys.

These squares might be a little more rectanglish, but a square is just a kind of rectangle so it all works out right ;)

Overall I love these and just wish my top coat hadn't bubble. Daaamn you NYC!

I can't wait to see what else the rest of my fabulous challenge buddies have come up with! Make sure you check out what they have done! :D

Hockey's Back! Go Leafs Go!

Happy Saturday people!

Last night I asked you all whether you would rather see some nail art today or the China Glaze Glitz-Bitz 'N Pieces swatches! It was really close, but nail art won out by a few late twitter votes. So nail art today and the fabulous glitterbombs tomorrow!

Last week the NHL lockout finally came to an end and the 2013 season began!! Growing up in the Toronto area I was bred to be a leaf fan. And once you're a leaf fan, you're ALWAYS a leaf fan! So I was stoked for hockey to be back on TV. Tonight is Hockey Night in Canada so what better time to share my Go Leafs Go nails!

I think it's pretty obvious that these are Toronto Maple Leaf nails, but I took inspiration from all sorts of different places.

My index nail is an interpretation of Ben Scrivens mask, my middle nail is their socks, ring nail is the maple leaf with TML in the middle and my pinky is an interpreation of a hat that I saw. My thumb is GO LEAFS GO!!

To do all of this I used Milani White On The Spot, Essie Mesmerize, GOSH Holographic Hero and black creme and my cut down nail art brush.

The leafs are playing the New York Rangers tonight so they will need all the luck they can get. The Rangers are staaaaccckked. I'll be watching and cheering them along until the end!

I love these nails and I've already got ideas for more NHL related nails. I love hockey and I'm SO happy it's back! :D

The Digit-al Dozen Does Art: Black and White Squares

Good Morning my loves!

Today is the LAST day in The Digit-al Dozen Art week and I have to say I am rather happy this week has come to a close. It has been a challenge to come up with some cool inspiration pieces, but challenges should be challenging! I struggled hard last night trying to come up with something and even completed a mani and then took it right off and looked for new inspiration. I eventually found some really interesting black and white squares which translated beautifully into skittles.

Here is my inspiration image that I found on Google.

I am quite fond of this type of work. I have even seen this kind of thing done where small pizza boxes were covered and then placed on the wall. Art for a university budget. I can see something like this in my house someday, I love mixing and matching prints as you can probably all tell from my love of skittles.

I did all these nails using Wet n Wild Black Creme and Milani White On The Spot. I used dotting tools, my mid-length striping brush and my cut down little brush to do all the work. On my right hand ring nail I stamped with Born Pretty store black stamping polish and BM-314 I believe.

You guys will be proud of me, I even managed to do my right hand AND get a semi decent picture of it! Check it ouuuttttttt

Still have an awkward hand pose, but my right hand never gets quite enough action on here to learn how to properly pose. How about a cool both hands picture?!

What do you think of my black and white skittles? Would you ever put up art like this in your house?

Make sure you check out the rest of the Digit-al Dozen! They have been kicking it up all week and I can't wait to see what they came up with today!
