Armed Forces Vet Striping Tape

Today I've got some easy nail art for you featuring striping tape and a new to me brand Alter Ego.

alter-ego-armed-forces-vet-nail-art

I started out with a base of China Glaze Soled Out which is a vintage China Glaze polish, not sure when it was released. I picked it up on eBay awhile back. If you know then let me know!! :) I then added some silver striping tape along a third of my nail and then across the nail on about a third line as well. Finally I took Alter Ego Armed Forces Vet and filled in the square on my nail! This polish is filled with small metallic red, iridescent white, holo blue and holo silver in a clear jelly base. There are so many layering possibilities for this polish and I really look forward to trying them out!

I loved the look of this polish!! I'll be wearing it as a full mani soon :) This was probably about 2 coats because I dabbed it on. I think it would be opaque in 3 coats and looks awesome layerd! I do wish the striping tape lasted longer on me. The next day it was starting to lift in some spots even with a topcoat.

I loved the look of this, so simple and easy to achieve but a beautiful result in my opinion!

What do you all think of this mani? Like it? Too simple for you? Let me know! Thanks for stopping by!

By the way starting tomorrow I will be embarking on a nail art challenge with Emily of The Lacquerologist and Jessica of BeautyGnome! They are both fabulous nail artists and I'm so excited to be starting this with them tomorrow! :D Be sure to check in and see what we do!

In case you missed it I did a guest post yesterday over at Life in Color! This blog is run by my dear friend Goisa and right now she is away mountain climbing one of the largest mountains in the world! She really is an incredible person and has become such a good friend over the past few months.

I was really excited when she asked me to do a guest post and finally settled on a manicure inspired by none other than the lovely Sarah of Chalkboard Nails

I hope you guys like my nails and please ignore my middle nail! I did this a month ago when I had a nasty chip lol. Click through on the image below to check out how I did this mani!

Neon Skittles!

Morning ladies and gents!

Today I've got some interesting nails to show you. I wanted to create something bright and fun for the hot weather that we've been having lately! It was 40 degrees Celsius two days ago!? That's over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Plus humidity it was stinkin hot.

neon-skittles-nail-art

So I started off with Orly's Hot Shot a neon pink from the High Voltage Collection way back in 2008. It's a hot reddish pink that is way more shocking in person, it's slightly shocking really. On my thumb, middle and ring fingers I used China Glaze Gaga For Green from the Electropop Collection released earlier this year. Then I grabbed the Blue, Yellow and Purple Stripers from the Color Club Brights set and created a skittles of patterns across my nails.

I'm not sure if I liked this or not. I was certainly bright, but I don't know if Gaga For Green was the right choice in accenting Hot Shot. I loved the ruffian on my pinky nail though!

What do you guys think of these? I was debating even showing them to you, but decided that I may as well!

Do you like my neonish skittle of patterns?

IT'S FLOAM DAY!

IIITTTT'S FLLOOOOAAAAMMM DDDAAAAYYYY!!!!

So if you don't know what Floam is then maybe you haven'thad internet access for a few months, so let me enlighten you regarding the absolutely incredible fabulous FLOAM!

I had quite the hard time getting my hands on this baby, but in the end, it was worth the effort. It is made by blogger turned nail polish maker Amy from I'm Feeling Nail-Venturous. This is hands down the coolest polish I own. It's a mix of yellow, green and blue micro glitter in a clear jelly base. The glitter is neon and it's matte! No sparkle and shine on this one folks. It has an incredible amount of depth to it and well it's just wow. Let's take a look.

HOW FREAKIN COOL IS THAT!?

This was 3 coats of the beauty and it just glides over the nail.

Whimsical Ideas By Pam Suess

Morning lovelies!

Today I have 3 interviews for co-op jobs! So I will be in a suit and heels all day. So I have some fun nails to show you today. Last Friday I showed you Whimsical Ideas by Pam Peanut Butter and Jelly and today I have the other polish that I got from her Suess

whimsical-ideas-by-pam-suess

Suess is a fabulous sky blue jelly polish with large silver hex glitter and medium red hex glitter and small silver glitter. Considering the inspiration was Dr. Suess she completely nailed it on the head! Since this reminded me of Thing 1 and Thing 2 I went for some red and white accent nails. To get these nails I painted my nails with a base of China Glaze White on White and then added striping tape  across my nails and then painted a coat of China Glaze Vermillion on top of the tape, then removed the tape and was left with the stripes!

I absolutely loved wearing this mani! I seriously got soooo many compliments all of my friends were like woah what's that blue!? And since I can't get enough of doing accent nails I just had to incorporate the Thing 1 and Thing 2 accent nails :D

Seriously love this mani! Right now Pam only ships within the US so if you don't live there then make friends with someone in the states and then get them to send you a bottle ;) They are $10 for a full size 15mL bottle and can be purchased here

I even realized that these nails are kind of memorial day themed, and even though I don't live in the states I guess this works? lol I hope that all my American readers are having a wonderful day off and wish me luck in all my interviews todays!

Mistletoe and Carbonite

Hello my dears!

I have some nails that I did quickly a few weeks back for you today. I saw it sitting in my drafts and thought I should post it! I used Revlon's Mistletoe and Carbonite to come up with this accent nail mani!

revlon-mistletoe-carbonite

I used Mistletoe on my thumb, index and middle finger and Carbonite on my ring and pinky fingers. Mistletoe is from last years Christmas collection and is one of their Top Speed polishes, which dry so quickly! It's a grungy pine green with silver and gold flakies throughout! Since this is a creme base and not a jelly the flakies are not suspended in the base, but show up really well through a creme. Carbonite is a gray silver polish with some light silver, charcoal and gold accents.

revlon-mistletoe-carbonite

I thought these polishes would look nicer together, but I didn't end up loving this look and wore it for less than 24 hours. Both polishes were 2 coats with 1 coat of NYC top coat.

revlon-mistletoe-carbonite

Ehn, I'm not loving this together, but on their own I love both! I think Mistletoe is my favourite out of the two. I can see wearing it around Christmas for sure!

What do you think?

My First Successful WATERMARBLE!

Today is the last day in the SNAAARKM challenge! And today is a dozie. It's a watermarble. Now if you have been with me for awhile you know that watermarbles tend to be the bane of my existence. I know you all said that you loved the one I did in the Black and White Challenge, but I wanted to be able to get some of those clean and crisp lines that everyone manages to get! And guys, I think I did it!

water-marble-aphrodite-lacquers-ambrosia

I used China Glaze White on White for my base and marbled with China Glaze Gothic Lolita,  China Glaze Don't Touch My Tiara and White on White. Look how pretty it is! I think what helped this time was that I used filtered water from my Brita Filter. I took it out of the fridge the night before and let it have plenty of time to come to room temp. I then made my design with a toothpick instead of an orange stick. Both seemed to help! I know I for sure need lots of practice making better designs, but I am very pleased with this outcome!

My thumb is my favourite I think.

Since I have been on a huge accent nail kick I used Aphrodite Lacquers Ambrosia as an accent on my index nail. This is from their Sandbar Collection and is a pink jelly base, with purple and gold medium sized glitters and gold micro glitter. I totally love this polish and will probably have to wear it again sometime soon.

You can purchase Aphrodite Lacquers from their etsy shop and each 15mL bottle will run you $8.00. They are currently in stock so head over and get yourself one!

I had a lot of fun doing this! And I was ridiculously stoked that I was able to actually make it work! I will be trying more water marbles again to practice my drawing skills.

Do you like my watermarble?

Whimsical Ideas By Pam Peanut Butter and Jelly

Today I have a seriously awesome polish to show you! A few months back I found the wonderful Facebook page :: whimsical ideas by pam :: and was in awe of how awesome her polishes were! I really wanted to place an order and luckily my sister was still living in the states so I got Peanut Butter and Jelly and the infamous Suess.

Today I'll be sharing Peanut Butter and Jelly with you. Now ever since I first got this polish I keep singing peanut butter jelly time in my head! While I was wearing this that was no exception.

whimsical-ideas-by-pam-peanut-butter-and-jelly

Peanut Butter and Jelly is a jelly purple based polish simply packed with medium gold hex glitter and tiny gold glitter. This was 2 coats and I had no issues with having to place glitter anywhere and the jelly built up really nicely really quickly! I was so impressed with it. It just slid on the nail to squishy goodness. Since my camera hates purples, just note that the purple base is actually closer to the colour of the rhinestones.

whimsical-ideas-by-pam-peanut-butter-and-jelly

Since I can hardly ever wear a polish alone I did an accent nail with Orly's Luxe which is my favourite gold foil. I have posted about it before here. Then I grabbed some rhinestones and placed a yellow one in the middle of my nail and went out with purple rhinestones creating some triangles.

Check out how awesome her bottles are! The labels are so well whimsical and the bow is just to die for. This really is the whole package! Right now Pam only ships within the US so make friends with someone in the states and then get them to send you a bottle ;) They are $10 for a full size 15mL bottle and can be purchased here

What do you think of this polish? Like it as much as I do?
I'll have Suess to show you soon!

A Forever Mani

This is the 6th and second last post in the SNAAARKM challenge. The criteria for today's post is My 'Forever' Mani. Seriously? This was really hard for me.  I don't think I could ever wear one design, or one glitter forever. So I started thinking back. Before I became nail polish obsessed I used to pretty much solely wear red polish. Red is so classic and shows strength and power. If I was forced to have one colour on my tips for the rest of my time, well I think it would be red.

I went searching for a red that I could use for this. Something with a little extra. I ended up settling on Revlon's Fire Fox. This is a matte suede polish with a little bit of pink shimmer running throughout. It has more pink undertones than red, which is helped with the pink shimmer.

revlon-fire-fox

This really is a beautiful polish. I love the suede finish on this, and unlike the other Revlon matte suede I own, this one really dried beautifully. I think this would also look amazing topcoated, but I didn't want to lose the suede finish lol. Sorry guys.

Please excuse the chip on my index nail. I didn't realize it was as noticable as it was until I was editing the pictures and by then it was too late to redo the mani.

revlon-fire-fox

Yup this was a hidden treasure in my drawers of polish. I'm really happy that I picked this and I can only hope that we will never ever be forced to wear a single polish for the rest of our lives! That is such a terrifying thought!

Do you think you could ever wear something forever? What would your forever mani be? Do you like this polish?

Linear Watercolour

Today I think I have a brand new take on the watercolour method to share with you! From what I can see no one has tried this before. Instead of doing drops of colour onto my nail and then using a fluffy brush dipped in acetone to allow the colour to spread out I tried a linear method.

linear-watercolour-nail-art

I started off with a base of 2 coats China Glaze White on White and then added a coat of Color Club Top Coat and waited until it was completely dry. Then I grabbed a striping brush and did a thick line at the base of my nail (polishes used will be listed below). I grabbed a second striping brush an dipped it in acetone and applied the acetone to the line in a dabbing format. this allowed the polish to stay linear, but spread out a bit. I continued up my nail in the same method until I reached the tip going in a different pattern of colours. Once I reached the tip, I went  back with white and added a few smaller lines between some of the colours. I also added a few more small lines in various colours to get the effect that I wanted.

linear-watercolour-nail-art

You can see on my thumb where I went back and added another white strip in the middle right of my nail.

The polishes I used for this are,

Wet n Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint (blue)
Wet n Wild Lavender Creme (pink)
Revlon Colorstay Sorbet (orange)
Wet n Wild On a Trip (purple)

I wore these nails for FIVE days! I know right that's madness. Especially because recently I have been changing my polish pretty much daily. But once I had this on my nails I didn't want to take them off at all. I had to do my friends nails because I was getting painting withdrawal LOL

linear-watercolour-nail-art

Maybe it was because I wore these for so long, but I got soooo many compliments on these. One cashier even was like woah your nails look like watercolour! That made me pretty pleased with myself haha. Like the traditional watercolour this could be done in any colour combination, but I chose to do something bright and fun for summer.

What do you think of my new take on the watercolour mani? Like it? Will you try it out? Have you done the traditional watercolour?
