31DC2013: Day 21 Inspired by a Colour

Purchased by Me

Gooood Morning friends!

Today moves us into the 'inspired by' portion of the challenge. Basically if this challenge was a baby we'd be in the third trimester! This portion of the challenge is really fun as it really allows you to get creative! Last year at this time I was feeling really burnt out by the challenge, but this year I feel like it's smooth sailing! So I'm very much looking forward to the next 10 days :D

Today's prompt is Inspired by a Colour. Since we already did so many colours at the start of this challenge I, like many other lacquerheads have chosen to interpret this day as inspired by a polish colour! My choice was Essie Cute As A Button!

How cute are these buttons?! See what I did there, he he :P Ok I'm the only one laughing right? For this manicure I started off with Lime Crime Milky Ways and then proceeded to draw on my buttons using of course, Essie Cute As A Button as well as China Glaze For Audrey and Nailtini Parfait Armour.

After the initial circles had been drawn and filled in I went back with Milky Ways and drew the circles inside the buttons and finished off with a dotting tool and adding two dots inside each button to make it a button! Woah I just said button a loooot :P

These are super cute and I really love them! I hope they fit the theme, even though I didn't use Cute As A Button as my base, it's still in there, as a button :P Ok enough with the bad puns lol

Make sure you swing over to The Lacquerologist to see what inspired Emily today! Also be sure to ENTER OUR GIVEAWAY for one of two $30 gift cards to Born Pretty Store!

31DC2013: Day 5 Blue

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Morning friends!

I hope you are all enjoying the challenge so far! I know I am, and Emily has been knocking it out of the park! So if you haven't had a chance yet you should definitely make sure you check out her posts!

Today's theme is blue. I actually struggled a little with this one. I had this idea originally, but after doing one nail it didn't work out so I went in another direction which ended up turning out even worse! I decided to go back to my original idea, but changed it slightly and I am super pleased with the results!

This manicure started out with OPI My Vampire is Buff which I still have a mega crush on. It's just a wonderful nude polish. Then I used the watercolour technique with pure acetone and Essie Butler Please, China Glaze Sunday Funday, and Nailtini Blue Carnation. This created the interesting backdrop to do my little bit of art on.

I then went in with my small nail art brush and black creme to create the pattern. I used MVIB to fill in the top piece, and Butler Please and Sunday Funday to fill in the bottom triangle. The rest of the details were done in black creme!

Once I was done, I thought this might look really interesting matte so I pulled out OPI Matte Topcoat and added a layer!

So which way do you prefer my blue nail art?! Matte or glossy? I think I prefer it matte, but I can't quite decide! Make sure you head over to The Lacquerologist to see what Emily's blue nails look like!

Purple Speckled T-Shirt

Purchased by Me

Morning beautiful lacquerheads!

I recently found a shirt in my closet that I completely forgot I had and have become slightly obsessed with it! Does that ever happen to you? While I was wearing it I thought it would be perfect to replicate on my nails!

The shirt is a light purple with neon yellow and neon pink flecks all throughout it. I debated for awhile how to get the texture of my shirt and then it dawned on me! I used an old eyebrow brush that was really stiff to create the flecks on my nails!

I started off with Nailtini Parfait Armour and then used China Glaze Sun Kissed and China Glaze Hang Ten Toes and my old eyebrow brush to get all the little flecks! Here are my nails with the shirt!

I love the texture of this shirt and really loved wearing this one my nails! I kept it on for a few days and only took it off when it finally chipped.

Do you ever match your nails to favourite clothing items? What do you think of these?

31 Day Challenge Day 19: Galaxies

I felt like starting todays post off with a joke, :D
Pupil: "Please Sir! Did you hear that scientists have found life on another planet?"
Teacher: "What are you talking about?"
Pupil: "They found fleas on Pluto!"

Enough of that! Let’s get to what you came here for, some galaxy nails! I kind of feel like I’m posting two days of galaxy nails in a row with these ones, but not much I can do about that I suppose! I have seen some absolutely amazing galaxy nails out there, and I was totally planning on doing some wicked solar system or something, but then after I spent 45 minutes staring at pretty pictures taken by the Hubble telescope and playing with different sponging combinations it was already 10pm and I really needed to go to bed lol. So I’ll have to pull out galaxy nails again sometime in the future.

These are pretty blue toned, I realized through my 45 minutes of going ooooo pretty at pictures of space that I was really drawn towards the more blue themed pictures. Shocker. I really need to stop always gravitating towards blues! LOL! Anyway I started off with China Glaze Liquid Leather and then tore up a sponge. Using the torn sides I sponged on China Glaze For Audrey, Orly Sweet Peacock, Nailtini Parfait Armour and finally Sally Hansen White On. I used Wet n Wild Hallucinate as my distant stars over areas that were still predominately black and then added some white dots to represent some closer stars.

I did these completely randomly, and it definitely takes some practice to get the desired effect. If I had the time I would probably redo a few of my nails, but from far away I think it’s still pretty eyecatching no? I think the best part about galaxy nails is that you can’t truly go wrong! There are all parts of the galaxies that haven’t even been discovered so if someone questions you, just say they are from a galaxy far far away… :D

On my middle nail I was kind of going for a black hole sort of look do any of you see it there? :D

My first foray into galaxy nails was fun! I actually remember watching the cutepolish galaxy nails tutorial way back when I first started blogging and thinking that I would never be able to ever do it.

Have you ever attempted galaxy nails? What do you think of my cool toned ones?

The Lacquerologist’s blog is back up and running! So head over and check out what she did for galaxy nails today!

And let's finish off today's post with another joke!

Living on Earth may be expensive, but it includes an annual free trip around the Sun.

Grey, Pink, Black and Blue

Morning dolls! I am sooooooo close to being done my exams! I handed in my final paper for one of my classes yesterday and I just have one exam on Saturday left! I'm not going to lie this exam period has been extremely mentally exhausting. Most often my exam period spans over 3 weeks so I have lots of time to relax in-between studying. This time though it all happened in 2 weeks along with having to write that pesky paper and mark exams and papers. I can't wait to get home and sit by my pool with a drink!

Anyway I did these nails about a week or so ago, I wanted to play around some more with loose glitter and this is what I came up with!

loose glitter nail art

I started off with 2 coats of Barielle U-Concrete Me on my thumb, index and ring nails. I used 2 coats of Nailtini Grenadine on my middle and pinky nails. From there I just went with the flow. I wanted to do a variation on the fishtail nail on my thumb using Grenadine and black loose glitter. On my index I did a V-Gap with Grenadine and black glitter. My middle nail is two coats of Model's Own Disco Mix which is micro pink and blue square glitter. I adore this polish. It's really a stunner! My ring nail is purple loose glitter up the middle and pink loose glitter along the sides. I'm really dissapoointed that the purple glitter smeared when I added topcoat, but from afar you couldn't notice ;) Finally I did a frame on my pinky alternating purple and black loose glitter.

Playing with loose glitter is fun! These are from Michael's I had a coupon for 50% off one item then 40% off your whole purchase, and magically they could be used together! So I got 12 cylinders of loose glitter for a steal. I will for sure be trying to incorporate these into more nail art in the future. :)

I was wearing these when I went to see my esthetician and she died over the loose glitter. She asked if I placed them all by hand and she looked at me with the straightest face and was like, "You're crazy." I might be because these did take awhile, but it was super fun to do!

What do you think of these loose glitter nails? Is this something you would spend some time on or do you like to stick to easier forms of nail art?

Hope you're all having a fab Friday! I'll be tucked away in a library somewhere studying away for my last one!

Thanks SO MUCH for stopping by! <3

Na na na na na na na na Batman!

Morning! So one of the many downsides to being in exams is that I can't participate in fun activities with my friends! On Monday my boyfriend and a few friends went and saw the new Batman movie. Without me. Nevermind that I'm an hour away at school. I was still wishing I was there. So once I was done with my studying for the night since all I could think about was Batman I decided to do some na na na na na na na na na na na na BATMAN nail art.

This kind of nail art was actually pretty simple. All I did was create a bit of a gradient on my index and pinky using Nailtini Espresso and NYC Sidewalkers. Then using a medium length striping brush I drew on the yellow oval in Cult Nails Feel Me Up and then using the same striping brush I drew the Batman symbol in Espresso! Easy peasy Batman nail art!

I honestly googled Batman symbol to have a guideline. I almost went with one of the newer symbols, but then decided you can't beat the iconic black and yellow Batman symbol! If it ain't broke don't fix it! I almost just left my thumb yellow, BUT then I remembered I had Daring Digits Batman in my drawers! Whipped that bad boy out added some glittaahh to the mani. Batman is gold and black (yesssss black glitter!) medium hex glitter with small gold and black hex glitter, plus gold holo glitter clear base. I didn't have a chance to take any sunlight photos, so just trust me that the holo is awesome.

I actually had a ton of friends grab my hand this week and be like "ERMAGAD YOU DID BATMAN NAILS!!" AND I wore these for the exam that I aced this Wednesday. Hmmm maybe I should do Iron Man nails for my next exam. Think that will help me ace it? Clearly the nails had a lot to do with it ;)

What do you think of my Batman nails? I know I'm not the first to do them, but they were hella fun!

Well it's back to studying for me! Hope you are all having a great Saturday! Thanks SO MUCH for stopping by! :D

Jelly Gradient Sandwich Tutorial!

Gooooood Morning loves! Today I am very excited to present my Jelly Gradient Sandwich Tutorial and my YouTube debut!! You have seen the jelly gradient sandwich twice on my blog before, here and here. Each time being a different set of gradients. Well today I decided to create a blue to purple to pink jelly gradient sandwich!

jelly gradient sandwich nail art

I got a lot of comments on my past two jelly gradient sandwich posts so I figured it was time to make a tutorial for you all! Now before you watch, I have a lot I can improve upon. I know essentially nothing about videos, but iMovie tutorials helped me and here we have my very first tutorial! All things considered I think it's halfway decent for my first try :)

I'm hoping that I will improve with more practice and that my voice overs will eventually get better, so please bear with me while I try to figure out all this YouTube stuff! :)

Meanwhile if you would like you can subscribe to me YouTube Channel! :)

The polishes I used for this manicure are, Nailtini Espresso, Sally Hansen Glass Slipper,China Glaze Ride the Waves, China Glaze Under the Boardwalk and OPI Too Hot Pink to Hold Em. I'm not going to give a verbal explanation because that's what I made the video for! ;)

I hope you all enjoyed my first foray into creating tutorials! If there is anything else you would like to see a tutorial for, so I can practice, because I need it, let me know!

I would love to see if any of you attempt the Jelly Gradient Sandwich so keep up with me on Facebook and Twitter to show me! :D

Thanks SO MUCH for stopping by!!! :D

Born Pretty Store Loose Glitter

It's SAAATTURDAAAYY!

I'm home for the holiday weekend (Canada Day is tomorrow What What! *raise the roof motion thrown in there*) and I am feeling MUCH better. Thanks to everyone who wished me well this past week :) Plus I am off to the beach today! So excited!! :D

A while back Born Pretty Store contacted me about reviewing some of their awesome nail art supplies. For my first review I chose some small loose glitter! The name on the website for these is Shiny Glitter Powder Sheets. It comes in 12 small tubs of different coloured small hexagon glitter. These tubs are packed so you will never run out. I've created a few different looks with this glitter and I'm going to show you two of them today!

nailtini espresso born pretty gold glitter

The first look I created was this edgy black and gold glitter look. This was really simple to create! All I did was paint 2 coats of Nailtini Espresso which is a plain black creme. Once I was finished I added a topcoat and then using a dotting tool placed the gold glitter individually on my nail. The different patterns were just kind of created randomly as I went!

I had so much fun playing with these! Yes they are slightly time consuming to place, but you obviously don't need to do as much or as many as I did. After I did this I had a cool topper from Nailtini called Blue Flame sitting out that I wanted to try, so just for fun I put it over this creation!

Ok now this I was slightly dying over. The blue with the gold glitter and the overall iridescentness of it?  Woooohoo it makes me smile.

I love that the glitter shows up even through the Blue Flame topper. I just felt like a punk rockstar with these nails! (Ok Ok I know they aren't really punk rock, but I really enjoy them regardless ;))

Remember the Fishtail nails I posted this past Wednesday? Well the next day I was starting to feel slightly better so I decided to add some silver glitter to it!

fishtail nail art glitter

The method for creating this look was the same as before. Just added a coat of topcoat and then with a dotting tool placed the glitter onto my nail into the silver area. The silver glitter is soo shiny! I felt like I had little disco balls on my nails lol!

Eeeeeee I had fun playing with this glitter. It is rather small, so expect to take a little extra time placing it. But since it is so small you will never run out! This set came with 12 different colours, the silver and gold and then 10 other gorgeous iridescent glitters. For all 12 pots it only cost $6.93! For glitter that you'll never run out of? That's a hell of a deal. You can find the exact glitters here. You can't beat Born Pretty Store for their prices and quality of nail art supplies! ANNNDD if you want to buy something remember to use my 7% off code! SA7X31

Do you like the look that I came up with? Would you try your hand with using loose glitter like this? Would you create something like this? I'd love to hear what you think!

Hope you are all having a wonderful Saturday!! Thanks for stopping by! :D

The glitter used in this post was provided for my honest review by the manufacturer or their PR company.
