Wal-Mart Wednesday: Reverse Fishtail

Welcome to another installment of Wal-Mart Wednesday! Today I am excited to show you what I think is a new look, the Reverse Fishtail!

reverse fishtail

We've all seen the fishtail nail made famous by Sarah of Chalkboard Nails. So I decided to turn it on its head for a little reverse fish action. These were super easy to create, the hardest part will be clean up!

reverse fishtail

I started with Sally Hansen Insta Dri Co-Balt Blue. Then I used Pure Ice Silver Mercedes and leaving a third of my nail at the top swooped in down towards the middle of my nail. Then swooped down on the other side and filled in on either side. Then I used Sally Hansen White On to do the same thing about two thirds of the way down my nail. I felt like the white area was a tad stark so I went over it with Wet n Wild Break The Ice to add a little shimmer. Just follow this tutorial and flip it upside down to get the reverse fishtail look!

For my accent nail I did two coats of my favourite silver Sally Hansen Celeb City and then used loose blue glitter to create a snowflake!

I'm loving the reverse fishtail look and this is actually the second time I've worn it! I originally came up with it as an accent nail in a skittle look which I'll show you this afternoon! It's super easy and all you need is the polish brush. Nail art anyone can do! :D

What do you think of my reverse fishtail with a snowflake accent look? Is the reverse fishatil something you would try out?

Hope you're all having a fab day!

Belated Wal-Mart Wednesday: Straw Christmas Tree!

Hey Everyone! I'm still feeling pretty under the weather and have not managed to get any photo editing done, but I did find this Wal-Mart Wednesday post that I had forgotten to put up. I didn't love these nails, but I liked the technique I used so I'll show you all anyway!

On all my nails but my accent I used Revlon Posh. This has to be one of my favourite green cremes. It's beautiful and the formula is flawless. On my accent nail I used Wet n Wild Break The Ice a shimmering white. To create the tree I took a coffee stirrer straw and in Posh and Sally Hansen Green With Envy I dabbed on circles until I was happy with the look. Then I added a dab of Sally Hansen Celeb City on top of my tree.

I felt like this could used something a little more so I added some glitter at my cuticle on my non-accent nails using Revlon Stunning.

Not sure about the non accent, but I did like my Christmas tree! Check out the macro below.

Sorry I'm short on words today! Let me know what you all think of these and if you like them or not. I'm going to try and recover so I can get back to posting regularly. I miss you guys!

Hope you're having a great day :)

Wal-Mart Wednesday's: Glitz and Glam

This weeks Wal-Mart Wednesday was a lot of fun to create and I really love the outcome. So let's jump in to this weeks nails, which I've titled Glitz and Glam!

wal-mart wednesday nail art

With the Holiday season fast approaching, I wanted to use these next few weeks to showcase some nails that could be used when heading off to a glamorous event. Hey even girls on a dime want their nails to look drop dead gorgeous! For this week I decided to do nails in a classic colour combination. Red, Black and Silver. Any LBD (little black dress) would look perfect with some red lipstick, silver earrings and these nails.

For this look I started off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Rapid Red on my index and ring nails. I used Wet n Wild Black Creme on my middle and thumb nails and Sally Hansen Celeb City on my pinky.

Since each nail is different I'll start with my thumb and explain each one from thumb to pinky. After the black base on my thumb I just added two coats of Sally Hansen Glass Slipper. This is one of my all time favourite polishes and I think it gives just a hint of shimmer over the black. Mainly just adding depth.
On my index I did a gradient with Celeb City and Rapid Red using a sponge.
My middle nail was a gradient using Glass Slipper but instead of using a sponge I just used the polish brush and first just painted on the tip, then with each coat painted further and further down the nail leaving a little black near my cuticle.
My ring nail is my favourite. I used the brushstrokes technique where you take essentially all the polish off the brush and then did quick random strokes with Celeb City. I did some more random stroked with Rapid Red and then used a q-tip to make the pattern look a little more random. I quite like the result!
My pinky is 2 coats of Celeb City.

This was a fun and easy look to do! All you need is 4 polishes, a red, a black, a silver and either a glitter or flakie (I think either would work here), a sponge and a q-tip! Again all can be found at Wal-Mart or any other bargain store. Your nails can look fabulous for all your Holiday events even on a dime.

What do you think of my Glitz and Glam Wal-Mart Wednesday? Would you pair these with a LBD for a night out or to a Holiday party?

If you have any events coming up and are in need of a little nail inspiration send me an email with your colour scheme and I would more than happily come up with some ideas for you! :D I really enjoyed creating this look and can't wait to do more!

Hope your Wal-Mart Wednesday is a great one! Stay fabulous :)

Wal-Mart Wednesdays: Half Moon Gradient

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back to my second installment of Wal-Mart Wednesdays! I have been seeing this style of the half-moon gradient nail art around for awhile and finally decided to try it out. I'm not sure who was the originator of this, so if you know please let me know so I can give proper credit!

wal-mart wednesdays half moon gradient

I started off with Wet n Wild Through The Grapevine and then one nail at a time added a paper reinforcement near my cuticle and did a gradient with Through the Grapevine and Wet n Wild Shield. Remove the reinforcement right after you finish the gradient and you're almost done! A little clean up and add a coat of NYC In a Minute Top Coat while the gradient is still wet to smooth the gradient even more.

All the products used in this manicure are from Wal-Mart and nothing costs much more than $2!! Wet n Wild is usually $1.97, paper reinforcements can be found for $2.27 for a few hundred, and cosmetic sponges are $1.97 a bag for 30!

Even though all the products used in this post are extremely budget friendly I felt very luxurious wearing these nails. The gold and purple combination and the half moon gradient is awesome together in my opinion. I also got quite a few compliments on these while wearing them.

These polishes can still be found at Wal-Mart they are not discontinued, so you can recreate this Wal-Mart Wednesday look! What do you think about the half-moon gradient combination? Would you wear this?

Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday my loves!

Wal-Mart Wednesdays! Eyeliner Nails

Hey Guys! Today I am starting a new feature on my blog which I'm calling Wal-Mart Wednesdays!

Wal-Mart Wednesdays might not be every week, but I will do them as often as I can. The whole idea behind them is to create a manicure using only things that can be found at Wal-Mart. I got a suggestion to show some nail polish using some discount polish instead of indies or higher end brands. I think that anyone should be able to have wicked nails and there is SO much great stuff available at Wal-Mart or drugstores. Everything that I use in these manicures from my basecoat to top coat and everything in between will be able to be purchased at Wal-Mart! So let's jump into the first week's nails!

I had the thought about using other kinds of make-up other than polish on my nails, and one of the first things that came to mind was using eyeliner! So I headed over to Wal-Mart and picked up a few NYC eyeliners and also went through my old makeup stash and found a bunch of colourful eyeliners that I never use. Mostly NYC and Rimmel, I'll list which ones I used below!

So I started with Essie Grow Faster my favourite base coat and then did 3 coats of Wet n Wild Break the Ice a shimmery white. I added a coat of NYC In a Minute Grand Central Station to speed up the drying process. I then started drawing lines of varying lengths with my eyeliner on my nails. I kept going across all my nails until I was happy with the opacity and the look of the lines. Then added one more coat of top coat.

I quite liked this, but I felt like it could use a little glittah. So I grabbed Wet n Wild Kalediscope just over where I had added the eyeliner. This added just the subtle bling I was looking for!

I realized when I was editing these photos that I seem to have taken all the pictures in the same hand position! Oops! lol

What do you think of eyeliner nails? Is this something that you would try out? I would advise to either purchase new eyeliners, they don't need to be expensive, the 99 cent ones will do the trick! Or if you are going to use eyeliner you already own, make sure that you don't plan on using these around your eyes again. Just a caution! I don't know what the implications would be :)

I hope you enjoyed my first Wal-Mart Wednesday post! If you have any suggestions for or ideas to add to this series send me an email (stephanie(at)sincerelystephanienails(dot)com) or tweet me (@sincerelynails). I would LOVE to hear any ideas that you have!

Hope you're having a terrific Wednesday!
