Day nine of the challenge! We are so close!
Today's challenge is a black and white water marble. I am not a good water marbler. In fact I am a terrible water marbler. I have used filtered, bottled and boiled water at room temperature and it never works for me. Oh yes I can get the polish to spread. And then I can draw a design, but for some reason when I dip my nail into the water all the colours mush together and I end up with a mess. I have watched hours and hours of you tube videos of people doing them and I think I'm doing it right? Who knows haha. Anyway I used China Glaze White on White and Wet n Wilds Black Creme for this mess.
Bleh. Not impressed.
*EDIT:* One of my lovely challenge buddies Esther just suggested to me that my nails remind her of this picture, but in gray tones! What do you guys think?
On another note we are almost done! Just the recreate your favourite day. There have been so many amazing and creative nails done that I have no idea what to do! It's going to take some thought.
Don't forget to check out what the rest of the sexy6 did! I'm sure they managed to actually do one lol
Hey Stephanie, you may think it looks a mess and not great, but the more I look at it, the more I love it, it looks like the layers of granite (?) you can get in rock strata, and the little finger is cool! :-) xx
ReplyDeleteAww Esther you are soo sweet!! I can see the granite look you are talking about! Thanks hun! <3333
DeleteYes I defintely like it, a lot! Funny how we both had a little circle/bubble on littel finger too. xx
DeleteHere's a youtube channel you should watch. Totally helped me with my watermarbling skills. I would suggest watching a lot of them because each one has a different "tip" that can help you be better at it.

Thanks Melissa! This is actually the channel I have spent hours watching. I will keep trying though and hopefully one day figure it out :)
DeleteI think it's great! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Minnie! You're so sweet :)
DeleteI agree with Esther...it looks like geode slices! =) It may not be crisp and clear like some water marbles, but it definitely creates a cool, different look!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteAre you cleaning the excess polish off the water before pulling your finger out? When I water marble I use water out of the cold tap put through my Brita filter, and it usually works pretty well, but it is still a frustrating process no matter what!!
Thanks Emily!
DeleteI am cleaning the excess polish with an orange stick, however I might not be getting it all and there is always polish stuck all around my finger, so that might be my issue! I will try brita filtered water next time :)
They do look like sliced Geodes I like it:D I hate water marbling too just think it wastes too much polish!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo! I agree it does waste a lot of polish! I hadn't really thought about how much it really does waste before
Deletecompletely agreed!!
DeleteI agree It does look like geodes!! I also agree with the poster who said it stil look very cool, just not like the typical water marbles. Have you tried dry water marble? I have a link to More Nail Polish's blog for her totourial I recently tried it & its pretty cool and waaaayy les waste.
ReplyDeleteHere it is:

Thanks Karen! I have not tried that yet! I just wrote it down in my polish notebook to try! I've done needle marbling, but not this. I will give it a shot. Thanks!
DeleteThere are a few things I would suggest that work for me: Use a glass instead of a bowl. I use two glasses both filled with room temp filtered water leaving an about two inches between the water and the lip of the glass. I use one glass for my right hand and one for the left. I clean the excess polish from the water surface with cotton swabs. This seems to work better than orange sticks. Also adding a tiny drop of acetone to the water helps as well. Also make sure that you are not dropping the polish too high above the water surface but close to it - almost touching it. This allows it to spread better and the color are less likely to bleed together before you have a chance to create your pattern. I hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I will try these tips next time!
DeleteI think it looks awesome that its not PERFECT! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kelly :D
DeleteI like it! It's not your typical water marble but that doesn't make it not awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat!
DeleteI really like it.
ReplyDeleteI just showed my husband and he said they looked cool, like pictures of the weather on satellite pictures or something or rock formations/fluid dynamics!! :-) see a massive win all round lady! :-)
ReplyDelete:D You made me feel so good girl! Tell your husband thanks!!
Deletedude, what are you talking about, they look cool!!! so abstract-y! I wont' even attempt to do a water marble, anti-talent me! =))
ReplyDeletehaha!! Thanks pretty lady :D
DeleteI have to say this turned out not too shabby. Water marbling is a skill that is SO challenging (and quite messy). I have tried it a few times without much success.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you placed your nail in one rapid motion with all points of the nail impacting the water at the same time... if that would help the pattern not get "squished"?
I applaud you for trying and I think it came out just fine! :D
Thanks Marta! It really is so challenging, I plan on trying again soon so I will try making sure it hits the water all at the same time :)
