The Digital Dozen Does Fashion: Snakeskin and Stripes

Purchased by Me

Morning Dolls!

It's mid week in Fashion week here and today I have some nails inspired by a really cute outfit I found on Pinterest! As usual I was browsing around for inspiration and found this outfit that was screaming to be turned into nail art.

Here is the outfit, which can be found here.

On my thumb and index nail I was replicating the shirt of the outfit, so I used Cult Nails Scandalous. Not only because it was the perfect colour, but it's also a jelly adding to that sheer quality of the shirt. I added the gold stripe down the center, with Orly Luxe to capture the gold zippers.

My middle nail is replicating the snakeskin bag. I started off with OPI My Vampire is Buff and then sponged on Essence cafe ole, OPI You Don't Know Jacques and black creme. I went over snakeskin pattern with my small nail art brush and MVIB. On my last two nails, replicating the skirt, I started off with Cult Nails Tempest and then using a dotting tool and black creme I created the dotted pattern on the skirt.

I love this outfit and this is something I would love to wear! I'm a fan of all the aspects and it translated nicely into nail art.

Would you rock a look like this? Either on your nails or as an outfit? Check out the rest of the Digit-al Dozen below!

31 Day Challenge Day 19: Galaxies

I felt like starting todays post off with a joke, :D
Pupil: "Please Sir! Did you hear that scientists have found life on another planet?"
Teacher: "What are you talking about?"
Pupil: "They found fleas on Pluto!"

Enough of that! Let’s get to what you came here for, some galaxy nails! I kind of feel like I’m posting two days of galaxy nails in a row with these ones, but not much I can do about that I suppose! I have seen some absolutely amazing galaxy nails out there, and I was totally planning on doing some wicked solar system or something, but then after I spent 45 minutes staring at pretty pictures taken by the Hubble telescope and playing with different sponging combinations it was already 10pm and I really needed to go to bed lol. So I’ll have to pull out galaxy nails again sometime in the future.

These are pretty blue toned, I realized through my 45 minutes of going ooooo pretty at pictures of space that I was really drawn towards the more blue themed pictures. Shocker. I really need to stop always gravitating towards blues! LOL! Anyway I started off with China Glaze Liquid Leather and then tore up a sponge. Using the torn sides I sponged on China Glaze For Audrey, Orly Sweet Peacock, Nailtini Parfait Armour and finally Sally Hansen White On. I used Wet n Wild Hallucinate as my distant stars over areas that were still predominately black and then added some white dots to represent some closer stars.

I did these completely randomly, and it definitely takes some practice to get the desired effect. If I had the time I would probably redo a few of my nails, but from far away I think it’s still pretty eyecatching no? I think the best part about galaxy nails is that you can’t truly go wrong! There are all parts of the galaxies that haven’t even been discovered so if someone questions you, just say they are from a galaxy far far away… :D

On my middle nail I was kind of going for a black hole sort of look do any of you see it there? :D

My first foray into galaxy nails was fun! I actually remember watching the cutepolish galaxy nails tutorial way back when I first started blogging and thinking that I would never be able to ever do it.

Have you ever attempted galaxy nails? What do you think of my cool toned ones?

The Lacquerologist’s blog is back up and running! So head over and check out what she did for galaxy nails today!

And let's finish off today's post with another joke!

Living on Earth may be expensive, but it includes an annual free trip around the Sun.

31 Day Challenge Day 13: Animal Print

Animal Print nails! To me animal print seems one of the best go to ways to do nail art. The classic leopard print can be done in ANY colour scheme and is super easy to stamp or freehand on. Zebra is another awesome animal print that instantly dresses up your nails.

Since I already did leopard print for blue nails here I was trying to think outside the box. Snakeskin? Did that here. Giraffe? Koala bear?! Hedgehogs? Ok so the last two don’t really have prints, but they're still animals. So then I got to thinking that maybe the animal doesn’t have to be real, imaginary creatures are still animals! That is how my dragon scale nails were born.

I’m going to say right off the bat that I love these. They are so cool in real life, but sadly my camera did not want to co-operate so they don’t look quite as cool here as they really are. So please forgive me : )

When I was thinking about what colour my dragon would be I immediately thought of one of the last great dragons of Middle-Earth, Smaug, from The Hobbit. This dragon is red and has an orange glow to him.

I started off with one coat of China Glaze Adventure Red-y and then working one nail at a time while it was still wet I took a dotting tool and drew my scales into the polish. You have to work pretty quickly to get all the scales on your nail before the polish dries. Then I grabbed a sponge and piCture pOlish Demeter which I got from the lovely Katie of Harlow &Co., and sponged on randomly to give it a little burnt sparkle. Then I added China Glaze Riveting with a small nail art brush to the tips and in various scales.

Sorry about some of the weird angles, it was hard to get the scales to really show up! Not sure why this design was being so unfriendly with my camera. Ah well! I hope you get an idea of how awesome these were!

Do you think that I captured dragons scales in my animal print nails?! What is your favourite kind of animal print to do?

Head over to The Lacquerologist to see what animal print Emily has done today!

13 down, 18 to go. See you back here for flowers tomorrow : )

31 Day Challenge: Day 3 Yellow

Gooood Morning!

Today is day 3 of 31 and the theme is yellow. Yellow has been one of my favourite colours since well forever. When I was little I had a yellow room that is probably my favourite room I've ever had.

For today's mani I decided to go with a neon theme colouring! Today is my last day before starting my final co-op term tomorrow and I needed some bright before it's back to 9-5 for the next 4 months.

31 day nail art challenge yellow

I started off with one of my favourite yellow's of the season, China Glaze Sun-Kissed. Highlighter yellow? Yes please. Then I used striping tape to create a new version of the laser tape mani. Instead of criss crossing the tape I made sure the end was square and placed it so I would have line segments on my nail. You know you're a nerd when you call it a line segment... he he anyone else laughing with me?

I took more polishes from the 2012 China Glaze Summer Neon Collection, Splish Splash, I'm With the Lifeguard and Hang-Ten Toes and sponged on them in random segments. Then I sponged on just a touch of Wet n Wild Black Creme to tone down the neon. Took off the tape and added a coat of NYC In a Minute Top Coat and I'm good to go!

Neon's have to be one of my favourite summer trends and it seems rather fitting that on the last day of summer I wear them!

What has your favourite trend of the summer?

Make sure you head over to The Lacquerologist to see what she's come up with for yellow!

I'll see you all back here tomorrow for green! :D

Abstract Nail Art Challenge Day 15: Recreate Fav!

Wow! It's the last day in the Abstract Nail Art Challenge! This challenge has been SO fun. I have loved seeing what these talented nail artists have come up with. This month has completely flown by. Today we were supposed to recreate one mani that our challenge buddies came up with! Let me tell you this was soo difficult! I had to make lists and then eventually ended up doing a coin toss competition where I assigned one as heads and one and tails and after many coin tosses I settled on recreating Emily's Day 13 Combination of two techniques!

How cool is this combination of textures?! There is so much going on here and I love alllll of it. Emily really knocked this out out of the park creating it! Since I don't have the exact polishes she used I started off with Sally Hansen White On then sponged on China Glaze Hang-Ten Toes, China Glaze I'm With the Lifeguard, China Glaze Flirty Tankini, and finally China Glaze Sun-Kissed. The neon colours really pop on the white base and the black saran wrap on top? I'm losing my mind at how much I love this! The black I used was my go to, Wet n Wild Black Creme.

I've got a serious case of sausage fingers going on in these pictures, but focus on how cool my nails look!! Like Emily's nails when I did the saran wrap it picked up some of the neon polishes and allowed some of the white to show through. It's a mad cool look and I think I'll be rocking this again at some point in different colour combinations!

Oh man I want to wear these for a loonnnnggg time. They are so punk and edgy and just completely rock! I'm glad my coin toss tournament landed me on these bad boys. Although I'm sure any mani I recreated from these fine artists would have me swooning. I anticipate I'll be recreating their creations for a looong time to come.

This challenge was insanely fun to do! It was great to practice some new techniques and build on some that I've tried before. It was really neat to get creative within a defined technique. I'm going to miss waking up and checking right away what these ladies have come up with!

Don't forget to stop by my wonderful challenge buddies to see what nails they chose to recreate!

Abstract Nail Art Challenge Day 9: Sponging

I can't believe we are already at the 9th day in the challenge! It's going by so quickly! Today's challenge is sponging. With the gradient taking the nail polish world by storm I decided to throw my hat in the ring with this trend!

sally-hansen-white-on-hot-magenta-gradient-nail-art

I started with two coats of Sally Hansen White On and then using The Nailasaurus method to create my gradient with White On and Sally Hansen Hot Magenta. This method really creates the smoothest  gradient! I mean look at it! I simply love it!

The one thing to watch when trying this technique is to make sure your 1st colour is completely dry. You can see on my thumb where I was a little ambitious in creating the gradient and it ended up looking a little lumpy. Any nooobody likes lumps in their manicures!

sally-hansen-white-on-hot-magenta-gradient-nail-art

As much as I loved the gradient on it's own once I had done it I had an urge to stamp over it! I'm catching this stamping bug I swear...

sally-hansen-white-on-hot-magenta-gradient-nail-art-konad-m83

I used my lovely Konad plate m83 and Wet n Wild Black Creme to stamp this super cute image onto my nails. I still need to practice as this was only my second time stamping, you can see where the image scrunched up a little on my middle finger, but I didn't want to redo the gradient so I left it teehee.

I then grabbed Wet n Wild Hallucinate which is a holo microglitter topper to give the mani a little bit of extra sparkle and shine :) Topped off with a coat of NYC In a Minute top coat and I was all done!

I really liked the outcome of this and this is the mani that I wore for 4 days during my hell week of exams, assignments and interviews last week!

I love the gradient trend that's been going around and Sammy's tutorial just makes it so easy to do. I'm also starting to get the hang of stamping I *think* lol!

Do you like my gradient or my stamped mani? Are you all over the gradient trend or do you find it's been overdone? Let me know! :D

Don't forget to stop by The LacquerologistBeautyGnome and Manicurator to see what they have done for their sponging manicures!

Black and White Challenge: Day 8

Morning!

This is the eighth day in our challenge, can you believe we're almost done?! It has been so much fun getting to know these wonderful ladies and seeing what they have come up with!

Today's challenge is sponging with black and white. Do you ever sit down to do a mani and it is kind of born out of nothing? That is what happened here. Friday night there was a package notice on our door and when I picked it up yesterday my striping tape was finally here! I wanted to use is in some way.

black-and-white-nail-art

I started off by painting my nails with 2 coats of Sally Hansen's Celeb City which is my all time favourite  silver foil. I let this dry and then started placing striping tape in various patterns on my nails. Then I grabbed a makeup sponge and sponged on a layer of Wet n Wild's Black Creme, then sponged on China Glaze White on White, then went back to Black Creme and sponged on random areas and finished off with a few more random placements of White on White. Finally I took off the striping tape and added a coat of NYC top coat!

I loved this! I reminded me of granite. I kept looking at it and wondered how it would look mattified. So I grabbed Essie's Matte About You and went to work!

I love this even more matte! It looks really cool in real life and I got a few compliments on it already :)

What do you think of my sponging mani?
