31DC2013: Day 30 Inspired by a Tutorial

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Morning friends!

Here we are in the last day in September! I can't believe we are here already! This month has seriously absolutely flown by. Today's prompt is inspired by a tutorial. There are a ton of tutorials out there for some awesome nail art. I stumbled upon this super cute Piglet tutorial by Qt Place and knew I had to do it!

Isn't this adorable?! I absolutely loved the Winnie the Pooh series when I was growing up and Piglet always stuck out to me because he was so cute and had a stutter somewhat like I did growing up. So Piglet always resonated with me.

I won't get into details about how to do this manicure because you can go check out the tutorial here! The light pink is OPI I Theodora You and the dark pink is Nicole by OPI Something About Spring. All the purple outlines are China Glaze Gothic Lolita.

What do you think of my Piglet nails?! Would you wear these?

The Digit-al Dozen September Spectacular: Animals

Purchased by Me

Afternoon friends!

Today's Digit-al Dozen post is all about animals. I really enjoyed Animal week back in April and I think I put out some of my best work ever that week. Unfortunately this is not quite my best work ever, but I think the manicure is bright and fun regardless!

Whenever I'm stuck for ideas I always turn to google to see what I can find. After numerous searches of colourful animals and interesting animals I stumbled upon the Liophidium Pattoni or Bright Pink Snake!

For these nails I started off with Nicole by OPI Hit The Lights because it has a slight shimmer to it and it not a straight up creme nail polish. Then I freehanded the black middle using Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes. Again I chose this black because it has a bit of a shimmer to it instead of being flat.

Finally the pink squares were freehanded using Essence Ultimate Pink. I didn't do the neatest job freehanding these, but I am pretty happy with how they looked at a distance! Damn macro photos! ;)

I think it's really funny that I chose a snake to replicate today, because I absolutely HATE snakes in real life! The sight of them makes me squirm and I for sure don't want one touching me :P What are your thoughts on snakes or this manicure?!

Be sure to check out the rest of the Digit-al Dozen below AND enter our giveaway! It ends this Sunday!

The Digit-al Dozen Does Fashion: Neon and Nude Purses

Purchased by Me

Gooood Morning friends!

I'm still away on vacation, but I could NOT miss a Digit-al Dozen Week! So this week will be my own posts, but pre scheduled while I'm still away!

We're back with another Digit-al Dozen week, with this theme being Fashion. I am not very fashionable, being a student an all so I turned to Pinterest to help me find some cute fashion trends. I saw these neon and nude purses and instantly knew these would translate perfectly to nail art.

Neon and Nude

Surprisingly I used tape for this manicure! I started off with one of my favourite nudes, OPI Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh and applied top coat and waited for that to dry completely. Once that was dry I taped off both sides of my nails leaving a strip in the middle for the colour.

Going one nail at a time I taped off the sides and painted using the polish brush. My thumb is Revlon Sorbet, my index is Pure Ice French Kiss, my middle is Nicole by OPI Hit the Lights, my ring nail is Pure Ice Flirt Alert and finally my pinky is Pure Ice Free Spirit. I added four gold studs from Born Pretty Store to replicate the clasp on a purse.

I wore these nails a few weeks back, and these were the nails that my supervisor finally asked me about! Of all the crazy nails I've worn and he's never said a word, these were the ones he finally went, "What's on your nails?" I thought that was pretty funny :)

What are your thoughts on these?! Remember to check out the rest of the Digit-al Dozen below!

Glam Patchwork

Morning! Today as promised I have some nail art using the three Nicole by OPI Kardashian Kolors that I reviewed yesterday here. When I was done my swatching for the day I loved All is Glam, All is Bright so much that I decided to keep it on as a full manicure. I had been wearing that for awhile and thought it would be awesome to showcase these 3 polishes together since AIGAIB flashes both blue and red!

I took some striping tape and one nail at a time created a criss cross pattern. For some reason the roll of striping tape I grabbed was not sticking to my nail so this step was a slight pain. Once it all had finally stuck to my nail I took Keeping Up With Santa and Deck the Dolls and using just the polish brush painted inside some random diamonds. I intentionally didn't fill in every diamond as I wanted the sparkle to really shine through. I kind of like the way it looks a little unfinished!

Each ended up different and I kind of wish I went back and redid my index nail as I wasn't really feeling how that one came out, BUT since there was the whole non-sticking striping tape situation I left it as is. I think my thumb ended up being my favourite looking nail.

I really like how pigmented these shades are for nail art purposes. Especially using them over glitter I thought it might be a total disaster, but they both worked perfectly!

These shades are great for nail art and I will for sure be reaching for them again in the future. You can seen my full swatches and review of these polishes here.

What do you think of my Glam Patchwork design as I've decided to name it!

Hope you're getting as excited about the Holiday shades as I am!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Deck the Halls Kardashian Style Swatches

Morning lovelies! Today I've got some awesome swatches of the upcoming Nicole by OPI Kardashian Christmas collection, Deck the Halls Kardashian Style. I am always amazed at how early collections are released, but it gives you plenty of time to play around with these gorgeous shades and doesn't limit you to just the holiday season, which I quite like.

I previously showed you all the press release for this collection and have 3 of the beautiful shades to share with you today. All of the colours that I received are absolutely stunning and have the classically perfect OPI formula along with the pro-wide brush that covers my whole nail in one easy stroke. Let's just jump right in shall we!

First up we have the Deck the Dolls. This was the thinnest polish formula wise, but don't let that fool you. This colour will still be opaque in 2 coats, but I used 3 here for good measure. Deck the Dolls is a teal with a it of a metallic shine to it. It isn't a metallic, but there is a definite metallic shine running throughout this polish that really makes it something special. I can see this polish being the perfect accent to a snowy manicure. It starts off a little brushstroky, but will build up as you add another layer and all the brushstrokes will go away. This may not be the most unique blue out there, but I think the metallic shine finish really gives it something special that makes Deck the Dolls stand out from the crowd.

Next up we have the stunning Keeping Up With Santa. This has taken top spot as my favourite red polish, by far. Now you all may be thinking, a red in a holiday collection, how original, but this one really stood out to me. First of all this baby can be a ONE-COATER! For the above picture I used 2 coats for good measure, but I also took a picture after one coat so you can see how there isn't much difference.

Keeping Up With Santa after ONE coat

The shade itself is a deep rich red with that same metallic shine as Deck the Dolls. There have been similar shades released this year, I'm talking about OPI Danke-Shiny Red and Zoya Elisa but this one is especially beautiful. I love the idea that if I'm running late I could throw on one coat of this beautiful polish and have gorgeous tips to match a little black dress, or jeans and a t-shirt. This polish will play well with dressing it up or down. I can already see myself reaching for this many times and have already planned Christmas nail art with it! I'll be Keeping Up With Santa for sure this year.

nicole by opi kardashian kolor all is glam, all is bright

I saved my favourite of the three for last, All is Glam, All is Bright. I was actually surprised that this ended up being my favourite, but when I was done swatching for the day I put this polish back on and wore it for the rest of the weekend! OPI describes this polish as a rosy silver sparkle that goes with everything. It is packed with super fine glitter, and I mean super fine. This baby was opaque in 2 coats. The amount of glitter coverage on the first coat shocked me. The polish is packed, but the formula isn't crazy thick as some fine glitters can be. It manages to retain that smooth easy dream like OPI formula while still being overflowing with glittery goodness.

There is silver, pink, red and even a little baby blue sparkle in this. Just stunning in my opinion. This will work perfectly for someone who doesn't love in your face metallic silvers or has a pink-leaning skintone. Beware this glitter is on the hungrier side. I used 2 coats of NYC Ina Minute Top Coat and the next morning added one more coat to smooth out any leftover grittiness. However, it's worth the extra topcoat. The shade is just beautiful.
