31DC2013: Day 23 Inspired by a Movie

Purchased by Me

Morning!

Today's nails are to be inspired by a movie! I actually really struggled with this prompt. First of all there are about 6 bajillion movies out there and I reaaallllyy didn't want to take off my Roar nails from yesterday. So I pretty much procrastinated starting these all day. I cleaned, did homework, and marked before I even started looking at prompts. I asked friends what they thought and started and took off 4 other manicures before I did these. Eventually I settled on Kill Bill nail art.

I actually only saw Kill Bill for the first time this past summer! My boyfriend and I only had a few select DVDs to pick from to watch a movie and when I mentioned that I'd never seen it he was shocked and immediately said it had to be watched. I really like Quentin Tarantino movies and this was no exception!!

For these nails I started off with Sephora by OPI Cab Fare and then did all the nail art with Sally Hansen Rapid Red, Essie Good As Gold and black and white creme. It was all done by looking at various Kill Bill posters on google and using my favourite cut down nail art brush!

I'm not super thrilled with these, but that could be more because I loved yesterdays so much and I was sad to take them off! What do you think about my Kill Bill nails? Have you seen the movie?

The Digit-al Dozen September Spectacular: BLING!

Purchased by Me

Afternoon my loves!

Today's post is another in the Digit-tal Dozen September Spectacular, this time we are recreating the theme BLING! We did bling week back in May and I seriously loved that week. I had a lot of fun creating blinged out manicures, especially because I was still on crutches at the time and it had been over 3 months. The bling nails made me very happy!

For this blingy manicure I wanted to do a skittle, because well I love skittles. I had China Glaze Escaping Reality sitting out on my desk and felt a strong urge to pair it with a holographic print and some gems! I started with Creative Fantasy on my thumb, index nail and pinky. On my middle and ring nail I started with Color Club Harp On It.

On my thumb I used Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes to freehand the zebra print and then I added a gem from Born Pretty Store. My index nail I freehanded the diamonds with Harp On It and then outlined them with Never Enough Shoes. My middle nail was a gem filled nail using big silver gems from Born Pretty Store and some 3mm rhinestones I had in my kit. On my ring nail I freehanded some random shapes of Escaping Reality and then added another gem. Finally on my pinky I used the same gems from Born Pretty Store as well as some small black rhinestones.

I had fun wearing these for the day that I did! Doing all these nails really isn't allowing me to enjoy them as much as I would like! lol Alas such is the nature of these challenges! What do you think of these pink blingy nails?! Would you ever wear something like this?

The Digit-al Dozen September Spectacular: Animals

Purchased by Me

Afternoon friends!

Today's Digit-al Dozen post is all about animals. I really enjoyed Animal week back in April and I think I put out some of my best work ever that week. Unfortunately this is not quite my best work ever, but I think the manicure is bright and fun regardless!

Whenever I'm stuck for ideas I always turn to google to see what I can find. After numerous searches of colourful animals and interesting animals I stumbled upon the Liophidium Pattoni or Bright Pink Snake!

For these nails I started off with Nicole by OPI Hit The Lights because it has a slight shimmer to it and it not a straight up creme nail polish. Then I freehanded the black middle using Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes. Again I chose this black because it has a bit of a shimmer to it instead of being flat.

Finally the pink squares were freehanded using Essence Ultimate Pink. I didn't do the neatest job freehanding these, but I am pretty happy with how they looked at a distance! Damn macro photos! ;)

I think it's really funny that I chose a snake to replicate today, because I absolutely HATE snakes in real life! The sight of them makes me squirm and I for sure don't want one touching me :P What are your thoughts on snakes or this manicure?!

Be sure to check out the rest of the Digit-al Dozen below AND enter our giveaway! It ends this Sunday!

Taped off minus Tape

Today I've got some nails to share with you that I did awhile ago and wasn't totally crazy about. I wasn't going to post them up here, but I know some of you have different tastes than me so here we go!

colour block nails

I think my mistake for these nails was not using tape to get crisp lines. I did all of it with just the polish brush, which was really fast to finish, but the lines not being perfect totally bothered me lol. From an arms length you couldn't tell, but up close I wasn't really feelin it. Also please excuse the smudge on my middle nail, I hit it right as I finished putting Seche Vite on and it showed up a lot more in pictures than in real life!

colour block nails

I started with a base of Color Club Angel Kiss the most perfect pastel green holo. One coat and you have a rainbow with hardly trying. I have 5 of the 6 Color Club holos, and I was going to swatch them, but you've all seen swatches so I'll just use them in cool ways like this! :) I added Essie Mesmerize on half of my nail, this was one of my first polishes I got when I started collecting and I still love it to pieces. Finally I added Sephora By OPI Never Enough Shoes in alternating diagonal stripes on half my nail.

I was really hoping the difference in finish of the three polishes, holo, creme and shimmer would come up and make this look super cool. I'm not sure it totally worked, what do you ladies think?

Well girls? Do you like this look, or are you like me and think there is something that just seems a little off?

Have a great day loves!

Icy Purple

Hey guys! Today I've got some nails that I did a week or so ago. I wasn't entirely thrilled with the end result and my pictures are not my best work. I had about half an hour before I needed to leave to go curl and figured I could whip up a quick layering manicure with an stamping accent. Wrong! But alas here are my nails!

purple stamping

I used Sephora by OPI Just a Little Dangerous on my nails except my index and ring, which are sporting Milani White On The Spot. I then added a coat of Daring Digits Ice which is an iridescent clear flakie that flashes blue and purple over all my nails except my ring finger. I added the silver square stud at the base of each nail to give it a little more visual interest. I stamped with Bundle Monster 205 and Wet n Wild Black Creme.

purple stamping

Ice plays a lot better over darker colours, as even in real life you couldn't see it over the white base. I would almost describe Daring Digits Ice as being Cult Nails Seductions infant sister. The flakies were similar in my opinion, except Seduction is in a purple base and Ice is completely clear. So maybe not sisters, but cousins...twice removed... lol I'm on a roll today.

I think the idea of these nails were much better in my head than in the final execution. But alas that happens! I almost didn't show these to you, but last night I went to bed without editing any pictures, so I decided to throw this out there are see what you all think!

So what are your thoughts on this!? Fail or did it have some potential?

Hope you're having a wonderful day :)

31 Day Challenge Day 18: Half-Moons

Fly me to the moon! The half-moon that is. When I was brainstorming what I could come up with for half-moons, the thought struck me, why not a literal half-moon?! And better yet, who goes to the moon? Astronauts and rocket ships of course! So clearly, half-moons with an astronaut and rocket ship was in order for today.

half moons

How much fun are these?! I started with my absolute favourite black, Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes. This isn’t your basic black creme, it has micro micro shimmer glitter throughout it, that cause it to flash a rainbow of colours in the right lighting. I only ever had a mini 4mL bottle from one of those gift sets, and it had run out on me this year, but at our Ontario meetup, Marta had a full size, hardly used bottle to swap! It was pretty much like Christmas to me!

For the moons I used Barielle U-Concrete Me as my base. I freehanded on the half moon with a medium length striping brush. Then I used Maybelline Impeccable Greys as my dark grey to add some definition using the same striping brush. I then used U-Concrete Me again mixed with white to add some of the lighter pieces.

half moons

For my rocket ship I used It’s So Easy Stripe Rite White to create the outline, then I added the definition with It’s So Easy Stripe Rite Black and the red line with It’s So Easy Stripe Rite Red. Have I mentioned how much I adore these stripers? The brush is perfection, and the colour is so richly pigmented that I have no problem completely covering any colour, they work especially well over black. For the fire coming out of the rocket I used Essence Wanna Be Your Sunshine and Essence Wake Up! . The window was done with Pure Ice Silver Mercedes.

There’s a lot of explanation on this one! My astronaut was done with the same polishes as the rocket ship, the only addition would be It’s So Easy Stripe Rite Blue for the blue bits.

half moons

After I needed a something else other than just the moons on my other nails, so I used Essie Marshmallow the best white jelly ever to draw a star and then add Wet n Wild Hallucinate in the center for some sparkle and shine. I used Hallucinate randomly on my thumb and pinky to give the impression of stars far away.

I think these are right up there with being one of my favourites that I’ve done so far in the challenge! I didn’t really notice it, but a friend pointed out that the way I drew it looks like the poor astronaut was forgotton by the rest of his team! They are taking off to go back to Earth and he is running to catch up! LOL! Do any of you see that?

These were seriously so much fun to do, and the literal half-moon is pretty awesome right? Right? What do you think of them?

31 Day Challenge Day 17: Glitter

Morning dolls!

I was a little stumped on todays theme. I mean glitter should be easy enough to do right? But then I couldn'd decide what kind of glitter, or what colour. Loose glitter or a glitter polish? So eventually I just decided to use a bunch of different glitters and threw together this manicure!

glitter nails

Not sure how much I like this, or if I even like it really at all, but it is glittery! I used Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes as my base on all nails but my ring finger. Then I added L.A. Girl Syngery on my index nail. My middle nail I added a coat of Icing Golden Age of Glitter and then sponged on Orly Luxe and Sally Hansen White On and finally added Alter Ego Gold Panner at the tip. My ring finger I used a base of Luxe and then added loose glitter from Dollar Tree in bronze, silver and gold. My pinky I sponged on a little Luxe and then added Color Club Gingerbread on the tip. On my thumb I just added Gingerbread concentrated more at the tip. Phew! That was a lot!

I'm feeling a little blah about these nails, but I guess you can't win them all? What do you guys think of this crazy mess of glitter nails?

Well, I don't have much more to say on these ones! They feel a little blah to me, so I guess that's all! My ring nail sure was sparkly! I think I liked that nail best :)

I'm suuuuppeerrr stoked about the half moon nails tomorrow though! So I'll see you all back here then!

An Emphatically Edgy Friday

Today I've got some pretty awesomely edgy nails to share with you. After the Black and White Challenge I tend to find my mind drifting towards some black and white designs. So after browsing through Pinterest for a few hours one night and consulting my nail notebook a few times I came up with this emphatically edgy design!

black-white-freehand-nail-art

I started off my painting my thumb and pinky with Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes. This polish is a black jelly filled with silver and gold microglitter than is actually visible through the black! It is my favourite black I own and I only have a mini. Might need to invest in a larger bottle. On the other three nails I used China Glaze White on White as a base and then using my Stripe Rite Black striper and Wet n Wild Silvivor and a striping brush to create the rest of the nails. Then for my thumb and pinky I grabbed my microbeads in Silver and placed them around the edge of my nail on my pinky creating a frame, and in a line down my nail on my thumb.

Placing those microbeads was surprisingly easy! I thought I was going to be a complete pain, but in the end it really was rather easy to do. I just dipped a dotting tool in a bit of clear polish, picked up a bead and placed it on my nail. I'm finding more and more uses for my microbeads and am loving them.

When my boyfriend saw these he thought they were sexy! Imagine that! He said the studs were really different and all I needed was a leather jacket, some skinny jeans and a motorcycle. I laughed, but can completely see where he's coming from!

On another note the day after I had done these I had an impromptu interview, that was supposed to be the following week, and I couldn't bear to take these off yet! So I wore them with my suit and the male interviewers actually told me they liked them. Said even though it's a technical job they liked that I have some creativity. Imagine that!

Oh guess what, my left hand even managed to do this on my right hand!

I apologize for the claws, but living alone it's hard to get pictures of your hands looking nice together so I made do with this.

What do you think of my edgy nails? Would you rock something like this? Especially to an interview? Or are you a little more conservative? Let me know! :D

Hope you all have a very happy Friday!

Black and White Challenge: Day 7 Glitter Glam

Morning!

Hope you're all having an excellent day and it's Thursday! So close to being done the week. Today is the seventh day in the Black and White challenge. Which means glitter :)
The nails that I did for today's challenge were inspired by Salla at OMG Polish 'Em. A few weeks back she posted these nails and I knew that they were so cool that I needed to recreate them in some way. My final result looks really different, but I still love it!

black-white-nail-art

I started with 2 coats of Sephora by OPI's Never Enough Shoes. Then let that completely dry. I grabbed my handy reinforcements and placed them on the bottom of each of my nails, then added 2 coats of China Glaze White on White and removed the reinforcements. I added a layer of SV so that WOW would dry quickly. I grabbed my silver glitter Art Club striper and added four stripes on each nail. Finally I took some black and clear rhinestones and alternated them across the half moon. Finish with a coat of SV and I was done!

I really like the final result of this, it feels very red carpet glam to me!

Please excuse my cuticles, they have taken a bit of a beating lately and I haven't been able to use my Burt's Bees as often as I would like.

Do you like my take on black and white with glitters?

Make sure you check out what the rest of the sexy6 has done! I'm sure they have all come up with something fabulous :)
