My Entry to Kayla Shevonne's Indie Nail Art Contest

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Morning Friends! I hope you all had a great weekend and aren't working too hard today. I have my entry to Nail's by Kayla Shevonne's Indie Nail Art Contest to share with you today!

indie nail polish

The whole idea behind the contest was to use indie polishes to create something and really make indie polises shine. I think my indie polishes are the stars of my collection so I went with that theme while I was brainstorming what to do.

indie nail polish

One of the first indie polishes that I ever purchased was The Hungry Asian Sneeze Breeze and it is still one of my most beloved indies. I love this indie so much I went with this as my first indie pick. Since this is an awesome black and blue matte glitter mix I picked out other blue stars from my collection, Girly Bits Denim Diva because I love this dusty shade of blue, and Princess Polish Blueberry Jam because who doesn't love a blue holo! I picked out Cult Nails Tempest the perfect white creme and Cult Nails Fetish to round out my selection of polishes and then got to work.

indie nail polish

On my index I started with two coats of Girly Bits Denim Diva and sponged on Princess Polish Blueberry Jam to create the holo gradient tip. Then since my theme was the stars of my indie collection I freehanded on a star in Cult Nails Tempest near my cuticle. On my middle nail I did 3 coats of my favourite The Hungry Asian Sneeze Breeze then added a coat of Seche Vite and black and clear rhinestones to add a little something extra. On my ring nail I started with 3 coats of Princess Polish Blueberry Jam then after that was dry added striping tape and then a coat of Cult Nails Fetish. I didn't top coat the nail to preserve Fetish's matte texture.

indie nail polish

On my pinky I started with Cult Nails Tempest and then did a rough outline of a star with Fetish. I sponged on Sneeze Breeze near the tip and then reoutlined the star in Fetish. I also left this without top coat because I loved the mix of the matte glitter and matte black star. On my thumb I used Tempest and then wrote indie in Fetish and sponged on some more Sneeze Breeze and left this without top coat as well.

indie nail polish

I absolutely love indie polishes and I'm super excited about this totally indie look that I came up with!

Indie's will always be the stars of my collection and I hope that this showed through in this manicure! :)

I had a lot of fun with this one and am really glad I decided to enter Kayla's contest! If you want to create an indie themed manicure to enter you have until April 30th and can do so here.

Hope you're all having a great Monday!

The Midnight Rider that Hates Pink

Today I've got some blingtastic nails to show you. I have recently put out a few of my untrieds on top of my storage container to remind me to use them! I bought Pretty and Polished's Midnight Rider a few months ago and somehow never got around to using it. So first I will show you Midnight Rider

pretty-and-polished-midnight-rider

This was 2 and a half coats, I say 2 and a half because I dabbed on a little more glitter after I had done my 2 coats. The glitter didn't want to come out of the mini bottle! Also IRL this colour is slightly different. It is a slightly brighter purple and my dang camera just hates photographing purples lol. Application was great except for having to fish a little glitter out.

This is a deep purple jelly based polish with red, pink and purple small glitter and medium sized red hex glitter and square purple glitter.

pretty-and-polished-midnight-rider

This was pretty and I was going to keep it on by itself but then my eyes travelled over to my storage unit and I saw The Hungry Asian's I Hate Pink. I grabbed it and dabbed and sponged on a gradient tip!

I am loving how blinged out this is!! The pink glitter plays really well with the red glitter in Midnight Rider I think. I Hate Pink is a clear jelly base packed with medium pink holo glitter. This polish has a ridiculous amount of glitter in the bottle. I had to sponge polish off my nails to get it to a gradient effect!

I loved wearing this look! It was so much fun and I got a lot of WOAH what's on your nails!?
Midnight Rider can be purchased from Pretty and Polished's Etsy shop for $8.50 for a full size 15mL bottle or $4.75 mini 7mL bottle. She actually did a restock last night and is sold out, but if you follow her on Facebook or Twitter she posts updates about when she re-stocks.
I Hate Pink can be purchased on The Hungry Asian's Etsy shop for $9.25 for a full size 15mL bottle for $4.50 for a 5mL mini bottle. She is currently in stock so run over and grab yourself a bottle of this baby!

How do you like blingy gradient nails? Would you use 2 glitter polishes like this?

Sincerely Stephanie

Cult Nails Manipulative

Morning dears!

So yesterday I spent the whole day moving and unpacking. It's so tiring! My nails also suffered a little damage, I got a few chips so I'm sporting nubbins again!

This week is going to be Cult Nails Divas and Drama collection week! I'm going to be posting both swatches and nail art using all of the shades in this awesome collection.

First up I am going to show you Manipulative. I'm starting the week off with this shade because my awesome friend Goisa over at Life in Color has started something called Monday Blues where we showcase a blue colour on Mondays!

cult-nails-manipulative

Manipulative is a dusty blue opaque creme with a hint of green and a gorgeous subtle shimmer that really stands out in the sunshine. You all know I am a hug fan of blues and this is no exception.

Maria was inspired to create this colour when she was vacationing with her family, she says, "We went to a local beach and the water was this amazing milky blue color that kept showing hints of green. When the sun would hit the water just right, this amazing shimmer throughout the water was noticeable. I must have taken a hundred photos of the water and as soon as we returned home, I set out to replicate it in a polish."

I think she completely captured shimmering water. This colour really is breathtaking. I used 2 coats for these pictures and had no trouble with the formula. It was beautiful and was almost a one coater, just needed the second to even everything out.

cult-nails-manipulative

For my nail art for this polish I grabbed some of my black rhinestones and started placing them in a line on about a third of the way in my nail.

cult-nails-manipulative

I love how edgy the rhinestones look against the polish. I wanted to do some nail art that captured the name, Manipulative. I felt that something edgy would represent this well.

Even though I loved how this looked I got a sneaky idea. I grabbed Sneeze Breeze and striping brush and went to work.

I'm loving this so much!! I feel like Sneeze Breeze was such a perfect compliment to Manipulative.

Manipulative is a beautiful blue that is 4-free and cruelty free. It can be purchased from Cult Nails for $10 USD. I strongly encourage you to go buy the beauty!

What do you think of Manipulative? Do you like wearing these kind of dusty blues?

Do you like my edgy nail art?

Don't forget to check out the other girls participating in Monday Blues!

Living Water For a Sea Creature

Morning dears!

Today I have more Cult Nails and The Hungry Asian polish to show you! Recently I have been seeing on Pinterest a new type of accent nail, where your thumb, ring and pinky nails are all one colour and your index and middle nails are the accent! I had both Cult Nails Living Water, which I was lemming hard and am SO thrilled that I have, and The Hungry Asian's Sea Creature sitting on my desk and a light went off! They would look awesome together. I was planning on doing a gradient of sorts, but I didn't have a lot of time when I was doing this so I tried the new accent style.

cult-nails-living-water-the-hungry-asian-sea-creature

I really liked the colours together, but I am not sold on this style. Without my thumb in the pictures it looks like I did half my hand one way and half the other lol.

Living Water applied like butter. It was so easy and fully opaque in 2 coats. The formula is amazing on this. I only needed to clean up because my dog decided to bark at me as I was applying it on my ring finger and I jumped. Otherwise it is essentially perfect.

Sea Creature applied really nicely as well. I did not use an undercoat for this and it was opaque in 2 and a half coats. Two regular coats and a little bit of placing the glitter on my nail. Dry time was pretty quick for a glitter and this baby was not terribly hungry! Just needed 1 coat of SV. I probably could have put on some Gelous as well to make it perfectly smooth, but SV worked good enough for me at the time.

I feel like Sea Creature is the child of Living Water and glitter. The two colours look so nice together and I love them both on their own epicly. I was wearing Sea Creature on my toes for about 2 weeks a few weeks ago and as soon as I got Living Water it went on my toes so I can always look at it haha. I don't even want to put on socks even though my house is chilly these days because I want to always stare at the prettiness!

cult-nails-living-water-the-hungry-asian-sea-creature

I love both these polishes and I think that's been made pretty evident throughout this post. Living Water can be purchased from Cult Nails for $10 USD and they will ship almost anywhere! Sea Creature can be picked up from The Hungry Asian's Etsy Shop for $9.25 USD for a full sized 15mL bottle or $4.50 USD for a 5mL mini bottle. The Hungry Asian does not ship outside of the States, so if you are outside and need that polish become friends with someone in the States who will ship to you :) All Cult Nails polishes are 4-free and The Hungry Asian's are 3-free and both are cruelty free.

Will you be buying either of these? Do you like the new accent nail trend?

Sincerely Stephanie

Black and White Challenge: Day 4 Stained Glass

Good Morning!

This is the fourth post in the Black and White Challenge. The first 3 days were awesome and I can't wait to see what the sexy6 have come up with today! Everyone is really blowing it out of the water!

Today's challenge is a white base with some colour. I have been using mostly cremes for this challenge so I decided to not let myself use them today! I started off with two coats of OPI's She's Golden, which is a white polish with a subtle gold shimmer. It is really pretty on it's own. I really wanted to do a colour blocking mani so I took, Cult Nail's Toxic Seaweed, The Hungry Asian's Sea Creature, Revlon's Mistletoe and my black striper and went to work.

colour-blocking-nail-art

I started out using my black striper to create the outline of the pattern that I wanted on each nail. Then I took Toxic Seaweed and a small nail art brush and filled in random sections. Then I did the same with Mistletoe and Sea Creature. Once I had filled in all the areas that I wanted I went back with my striper and redid the lines so they had more definition. Topped it off with a coat of SV and I was good to go!

I'm totally in love with this look! I love the colour blocking and I think all the glitter, shimmer and flakies make this extra special! My boyfriend told me that they reminded him of stained glass the way the flakies and glitter kept catching the light, so that's what I have named these!

I even managed to do this on my right hand! I didn't take a picture because well it's not quite as neat and I'm a perfectionist haha.

Again I'm totally in love with this look! The flakies in toxic seaweed keep catching the light and I just love it!

What do you think of my take on colour blocking, aka Stained Glass?

The Hungry Asian's Sneeze Breeze

If you are completely confused by my title of this post, I will assure you it is not about a hungry asian that wants to sneeze. The Hungry Asian is an awesome indie polish maker and today I have the first in a set of four awesomely amazing polishes to show you.

Let me introduce...

SNEEZE BREEZE

the-hungry-asian-sneeze-breeze

Look at that baby. This polish is intense microglitter. I mean micro. Each piece of glitter is probably about the size of a grain of sand. That small. And this glitter isn't sparkly. It just sits on your nails like a dream.

The polish itself is a mix of blue and black super fine glitter. My favourite kind of polish is blue, and well I love glitter. Especially black glitter. It's just so preeeettyy *swooooon* So I pretty much never want to take it off my nails. Yes I am still wearing it right now as I type this.

Let's see another pic.

the-hungry-asian-sneeze-breeze

BAH! It's beautiful.

Application on this bad boy was a tad tricky. All my pictures are two thickish coats. You need to be really careful when applying it because it is so dense. I didn't want to use a base colour, but I have seen others put blue or black underneath which would help when you're applying it.

I had read on a couple other blogs that this glitter was HUNGRY! Boy were they right. I used two coats of Gelous and a coat of Seche Vite and the next day my nails were slightly bumpy again. Not enough that it bothered me to go and put on another coat of SV, but still bumpy.

Yup that's a lot of pictures. I purchased Sneeze Breeze as part of THA Holiday Collection, but she sells it individually in both 12mL for $8.50 USD and 5mL for $4.50 USD bottles in The Hungry Asian Etsy Store. There are also a number of other gorgeous polishes that Kae makes. All 3 free and cruelty free. I would recommend you run over there and sell her out :)

On another note do you guys see a difference in my pictures? I got a white light and it felt like it was all the difference when I was taking these! I am going to learn to become a better photographer I swear haha.

Hope you all have a fantastic Friday if you are still with me after this long winded post!

Sincerely Stephanie
