Black and White Challenege: Day 2 Sno-Caps

Good Morning Sweeties!

How are you all doing today? This is the second post in the Black and White Challenge. Day one of the challenge was so amazing, my challenge buddies really knocked it out and it was only day 1! I can't wait to see what they come up with for the rest of the challenge :)
Today's challenge is adding white to a black base.

Today I ended up with a 3 step manicure. I'm not really sure which step I like best, I think they all look pretty cool! When I showed my boyfriend he said they reminded him of Sno-Caps candy. Apparently this is a candy in the states? I've never heard of it. But upon further investigation these candies are chocolate covered in white non-pareils, so they fit the final nails pretty well!

They totally could look like the candy right? Anyway here is how I got to that.
I started with 2 coats of my favourite black, Wet n Wild's Black Creme. Then I took a striper brush and China Glaze's White on White and added the outlines of my V-Gaps.

I just used the brush from WOW to fill in the rest of the V-Gap. They weren't exactly even so I dipped my striper back into BC to even out and bring the gap all the way to the tip of my nail.

I liked it at this point, but the gaps weren't all even and I wasn't sure how to fix it. Then I saw my dotting tool. I grabbed it in filled in the white space with black dots!

This reminded me of black and white lady bugs! I really liked it at this point, but for some reason felt like it wasn't quite finished. It needed white dots! So I added some white dots in the solid black area.

I know all my dots aren't quite the same size, but I actually really like the final result! I think it looks a little psychedelic!

What step of my mani do you like best? Should I have left it alone after step 1 or 2 or not at all! :)

Don't forget to check out what my gorgeous challenge buddies have done, aka the Sexy 6!

  2. Stephanie, I TOTALLY LOVE this, I'm a sucker for anything dotty! I don't think it's too much at all at the final stage, the contrast makes sure of that. <3

  7. Great concept! Step one just didn't look finished to me...it would have bothered me to leave it like that. You could have stopped at step two, it's a nice take on a quasi-french tip and it really looked nice, but that isn't in us nailies to leave well enough alone, is it. Step three just brings it all together. I suck at small dotting, and you did a great job. When I first saw the pic, I thought it was a stamp...so hat's off to you!
