A few weeks ago a blog post took the nail polish by storm as someone had found a bottle of nail polish in Claire's that looked like a dupe of Deborah Lippmann's Candy Shop... also called Candy Shop. Since I own the Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop a dupe comparison was in order!
First up the bottles,
Labels turned away,
Again it is pretty clear that the two pink's are not identical in this shot. It also looks like DL has more small round glitter while Claire's focuses on larger glitter pieces.
I applied two thickish coats on all fingers, DL Candy Shop on my index and ring fingers and Claire's Candy Shop on my middle and pinky fingers.

To many they may look exactly the same on the nail, but I still see the differences. It is really evident that the Claire's polish has a hot pink base, which is more opaque than the DL. Since it is more opaque some of the glitter is hidden underneath the pigment, while DL's the base is more jelly like so the glitter can really show through and take centre stage instead of the pink base.

Application wise, the DL goes on much smoother and all the glitter lays flat on the nail. It is pretty evident on my pinky nail that the glitter is not laying flat in the Claire's polish.
There are NOT exact dupes of each other, but are probably close enough that you don't need both in your collection. I prefer the Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop, because I like that the glitter lays flat and it much easier to apply.
Which one do you like better? Can you see the difference?
Sincerely Stephanie
Great comparison! It's hard for me to see a difference. I guess DL is a little lighter. Thanks for swatching!
ReplyDeletethanks Bethany! They are very similar and if you can find the Claire's version I would encourage it for sure!
DeleteAwesome comparison! Whenever I see swatches of the Claire's one it seems to be an exact dupe but now I know better. Great swatches!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jacqui! They are pretty similar and I thought they would be exact dupes until I put them side by side. For the difference in price I'd settle for the Claire's, but I found the DL on eBay for a bargain before the Claire's version surfaced
DeleteThey're both awesome but I think I definitely like the DL version better, it looks like it applied so much more smoothly! And I like that it's a little lighter... if only it were the same price as Claire's! Thanks for the comparison!
ReplyDeleteIt really was a lot smoother to apply. The price is higher on those babies for a reason! From afar though I don't think anyone other than the addicts would be able to tell the difference lol :)
DeleteI actually like the Candy Shop one better.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people prefer the more hot pink base, for sure it's still a gorgeous polish
DeleteI can't really see the difference, but this post suddenly made me crave candy... LOL =))
ReplyDeletehaha! love it!! <3
DeleteSame here!!
DeleteI didn't have any problems with my claire's one laying nicely. It was fine w/ 2 coats. However, it was an absolute nightmare to remove.
ReplyDeleteI actually own the Claire's dupe and I agree that the base is much pinker than the DL version. But for $5 instead of $18 I can live with it - lol!
ReplyDeleteThey're really similar!!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! I love the DL nail polishes, but they are just so expensive and I can't justify spending $18 on a unique nail polish if there's a dupe! Although the claire's one is a little more hot pink and such I definitely wouldn't mind if it's 15 dollars cheaper! Thanks again!! (:
ReplyDeleteRevlon girly looks like it could be a dupe. I picked it up today and it's a lighter pink compared to Claire's candy shop
ReplyDeleteRight here is the perfect blog for everyone who really wants to understand this
ReplyDeletetopic. You understand so much its almost hard to argue with
you (not that I actually would want to…HaHa).
You definitely put a brand new spin on a topic which has been written
about for years. Wonderful stuff, just wonderful!
