The Digit-al Dozen Does Fashion: Chevrons and Dots

Purchased by Me

Morning ladies and gents!

Here we are in Day 4 of the Digit-al Dozen's Fashion Week and I am back at it today with another outfit inspired post. I stumbled upon the blog Happily Grey and instantly fell in love with her creative style. I found this post and although I don't think I could ever quite pull off the outfit I thought it would make for some wild nail art!

Now it kind of looks random, but check out the outfit,

Blue polka dotted shirt, with some wild black, white and orange pants!

For the 'shirt' nails I started off with China Glaze Splish Spalsh and then added the dots with a small dotting tool and Pure Ice French Kiss. The 'pants' nails were a little harder, I started off with Cult Nails Tempest my favourite white creme. Then using my small cut down nail art brush I started painting on the chevrons with Zoya Kafuda and Wet n Wild Black Creme. I was careful to leave empty white chevrons so I could speckle them after to get the effect of the pattern. Once they were done I added the white strips in the black and orange chevrons. Coat of Seche and I was good to go!

It might seem random, but I'm actually digging how different these prints are next to each other! The contrast is quite interesting, and I think that's what makes it unique. I never would have paired these together without this week so I'm super happy for the challenge!

What are your thoughts on this contrasting nails?! I hope you're having a great end to your week! Check out the rest of the participants below!

The Digit-al Dozen Does BLING! 18K Gold with Chains

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Afternoon friends!

Today is the last day in the Digit-al Dozen's BLING week! I'm sad this week is coming to a close, it has been so fun creating crazy blingy manicures. You all know this won't be the last bling that you see from me! Todays nails aren't necessarily insanely bling, but they involve 18K Gold and some hawt chains so I think they fall into the bling category!

These are so bold and in your face I LOVED wearing them. They were so luxurious and fun and totally out of this spring season. So me and I never wanted to take them off!

On my thumb and ring nail I started with the fabulous OPI Innie Minnie Mighty Bow and then added a coat and a half of Zoya Gilty. I dabbed a few extra flakes where I wanted them to get the effect I was going for. On my index and middle nail I started with Cult Nails Tempest and then added the black dots and stripes with Cult Nails Fetish. On my pinky nail I just used Fetish as another accent nail. I felt like there was enough going on in the manicure already lol.

These bold in your face manicures are so me and I am loving what these chains can do! Would you ever wear anything like this?! You can pick up these chains here at Born Pretty Store for $2.99 for 100cm of chain. You'll never run out it's so much! Also remember to use my 10% off code SA7 X31

Hope you are having a great Friday and have a lovely long weekend! I'm home for the weekend and my sister is coming home from school! I haven't seen her since Christmas so I'm super excited!

The Digit-al Dozen Does Animal Week: Octopus

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Morning loves! Here we are at Day 4 in the Digit-al Dozen's Animal Week and I have some more under the sea themed nail art to share with you. I absolutely love octopuses for a number of reasons. First of all they are incredibly cool looking and amazingly smart animals. I watched a documentary on octopuses and apparently they are on the same level of intelligence as humans but they broke off development somewhere early on and have almost a completely different biological makeup!

I google image searched octopus to get some inspiration and one of the first images that popped up was this post by Sonoma Nail Art. I absolutely loved her octopus so decided to take it as my inspiration but switch up my colours as well as where I placed him.

I started with China Glaze For Audrey as my background and then used a variety of purple polishes and my smallest nail art brush and dotting tool to create my octopus.

On my thumb and pinky I decided to create a glitter gradient using Jordana Cosmic and Icing Disco Ball. I used Cosmic on the octopus nails to create some more visual interest.

Here are all the purples that I used! I almost pulled out every one in my stash ;)
Barielle Grape Escape
China Glaze Gothic Lolita
Nail The B.Y.T.C.H. Fruity Cutie Butte
Zoya Keiko
Wet n Wild On A Trip
Rimmel Night Before
Sally Hansen Insta Dri Vigorous Violet

I'm also trying out this new hand position, what do you all think?

I really enjoyed creating this octopus look, and love having sea creatures on my nails! I am a huge fan of all BBC productions such as Planet Earth, Blue Planet and Life and the underwater portions are my favourites to watch! What are your favourite kinds of animals?

Make sure you come back tomorrow I have some of my best nail art ever to share with you :D Check out the rest of the Digit-al Dozen's posts below!

Zoya Gilty with Some Christmas Embellishments

Gooooood Morning loves! I am DONE my co-op! No more hour and a half commute both ways each day. I am REALLY looking forward to getting to sleep past 5:45 for the next little while. :D

Today I have an amazing polish to share with you, Zoya Gilty. Ever since the gold top coat trend started I really wanted to get my hands on one. However the $30+ price tag was really holding me back. I love polish, but I need to be able to pay for tuition lol. So when I was lucky enough to win Week 2 of Nail Polish Canada's Holiday nail art contest I literally jumped for joy knowing that a gold topcoat would be mine!

zoya gilty

I decided that I actually needed to wear this polish. No swatching here. So on Sunday night I finally say down and put on two coats of China Glaze Running In Circles and then added Zoya Gilty. The green and gold combination is to die for. I'm hooked on it! I felt so luxurious with real 18K gold on my nails. There is just no other way to describe it.

zoya gilty

I'd been wearing this for 2 days, and generally that's as long as I can leave something on, but there was a part of me just begging myself not to take it off. So I embellished it!

zoya gilty nail art

I started with the thought in mind to just add the rhinestone and bullion bead bows just on my ring nail and thumb. Then something in me wanted to make it into a skittlette! Since I didn't want to screw up my right hand I just painted over what was already there with OPI The Spy Who Loved Me on my middle nail and Essence A Piece of Forever on my pinky. I left my index nail alone to give Gilty the spotlight.

I actually can't believe how many compliments this manicure got. Everyone at the office was grabbing my hand being like no you didn't do this? The cashier at the grocery store freaked out a little too when I told her that I did them myself. lol AND I got my right hand to match! Don't believe me? Here's PROOF!

I wore these for another 2 days until my thumb popped off and I couldn't walk around with a bare thumb. I almost wish these had been my Christmas day nails. I'll have to come up with something else now.

I really do love these and they felt so festive! What do you think of my Gilty embellished nails? Would you wear something like this during the holiday season?

I can't believe we are so close to Christmas! This year has really snuck up on me. I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season my dears!

31 Day Challenge Day 29: Inspired by the Supernatural

Day 29, I can't believe we are almost done the challenge! This month has absolutely flown by!

Today's theme is inspired by the supernatural. I started thinking about haunted houses and those pictures that have those eyes that move back and forth. That's what my nails are based on today!!

For this shifty look I started off with 2 coats of OPI Skull and Glossbones and then added a coat of Zoya Gemma and used a tissue to take most of it off to get a zombified look. Then I used Milani White On the Spot to create the eyes and then added a dot with Wet n Wild Black Creme. Once I'd taken pictures, I took off the black dot and added a dot on the other side!

supernatural nails

This prompt was an interesting one, but I like my shifty eye zombified nails I came up with! More for fun than wearing, but still, pretty cool! :)

Only 2 more days left! It's crazy! Make sure you head over to The Lacquerologist. Her supernatural nails are out of this world today!!

31 Day Challenge Day 6: Violet

It’s violet day! I’m not sure about you, but violet is essentially purple right? Well I’ve got some purpleiffic nails to show you today.

Candice from Mr.Candiipants posts some epically awesome manicures and awhile back when gradients were all anyone was talking about she decided to amp it up a little and do this amazing block gradient. It has been bookmarked in my Nail Inspiration folder ever since she did it and I figured it was finally time to recreate it!

31 day nail art challenge violet

These are actually super easy to do! Here is the tutorial from Candice, but I’ll do a quick run down of what I did. I started with a coat of Nail the B.Y.T.C.H. Fruity Cutie Butte the lightest purple and the colour closest to my cuticle. This does not have to be opaque because you’ll be going over it with the rest of your gradient! I took my favourite medium length striping brush and my middle colour Sally Hansen Psychedelic Purple and made a block in the middle of my nail. Then I went down the gradient using Essie Jamacia Me Crazy and Zoya Keiko creating again blocks about 1/7 of my nail long. I filled in using Fruity Cutie Butte near my cuticle making sure there were no bald spots. Then I went from the middle of my nail to the tip using, Barielle Grape Escape, Konad Special Polish in Purple and finally Rimmel Night Before on my tip.

Now if you aren’t crazy like me and don’t have 7 purple polishes that you can use to make a block gradient you can do this by mixing one colour with black and white crèmes! This was actually my initial plan, but then I hauled out all my purples and realized I had enough… I’ve got a lot of polish ok. :D

31 day nail art challenge violet

I added those two rhinestones on my thumb and ring finger to bling it up a little, buuut turns out you couldn’t really see them. Oh well. I still like them there.

31 day nail art challenge violet

I love the idea of the block gradient, and it’s pretty fly and all you need is a striping brush and all you have to do is draw lines! And even if your lines aren’t straight since it’s a gradient, who is really going to notice?! Ya I just realized I said fly… he he…

Do you love the idea of the block gradient as much as I do?! Thanks for coming up with such an awesome idea Candace!

Now head over to The Lacquerologist and see what Emily has done for violet day!

Six down, twenty-five to go. I’ll see you tomorrow with some black and white nails that I’ll be attempting tonight! I’m super excited about them! :D

Olympic Themed Polish Days!

Afternoon everyone! Today is the third installment in Polish Days! This time the theme is The Olympic Games! I personally LOVE the Olympics, and I am GLUED to the TV watching. I will watching anything. I get so caught up in the excitement and the pure passion that these athletes have for their sport and their country. One of my absolute favourite sports to watch however is gymnastics. The things that these men and women can make their bodies do absolutely blows my mind. So since I already did a manicure showcasing London and the Olympics, I decided to do one based on my favourite gymnastics apparatus, the balance beam!

olympic nail art

For this manicure I started off with a coat of Sally Hansen White On. Then I did a gradient using Zoya Keiko and Essie Demure Vixen. I chose the purple background because when watching the gymnastics portion all the accents in the area are purple! Then I mixed Revlon Bare Bones and OPI You Don't Know Jacques and used a medium length striping brush to create the balance beam across my nails. Then I used YDKJ to add the supports on my index and pinky. Then I used It's So Easy Stripe Rite Striper White to draw the olympic rings across my index and middle nails. I did these in white because in the stadium the rings are all white! Then came the girl. I drew her using It's So Easy Stripe Rite Striper Black and Nailtini Espresso and a dotting tool.

My goal for this was to make the girl look like she was completing a routine across my nails. To start she is in the middle of her flip to mount the beam. Then the next one is after she came out of the flip and is standing tall and proud. She would probably do a few dance like moves in here. Then she does a hand stand into my index nail and holds a crazy move with her legs. She comes out of that and is kneeling on the beam, throwing in a few more awesome dance moves. Then she does the splits in the air on my ring nail and finally on my pinky she is in the middle of flipping off the beam for her dismount!

I loved these nails! They were so much fun to make and come up with her routine. I love gymnastics and have really enjoyed watching them this Olympics.

How do you like my gymnast on the balance beam!? What's your favourite sport to watch during the Olympics?

After I wrote this post my boyfriend and I decided to take an impromptu trip up to his cottage for a few days. So unfortunately I won't be around to check out the AWESOME manicures for a few days as there will be no internet access at the cottage! I am super excited to see what these awesome ladies have come up with when I get back, so make sure you check them out now! (Participants I will add you to this post once I get back!)
EDIT: Here is the final list of participants!

This #PolishOlympics was SO much fun! Hope you're enjoying the Olympics!
