Synoptic Weather Codes

It's Saaaatttuuurrrdddaaaaayyyy! If your weather is anything like mine it is HOT. I mean hot, hot. Like if I step outside I'm sticky instantly. So I'll probably be spending the day inside where I will be doing homework and watching my latest obsession, Sons of Anarchy. Does anyone else watch this show? Kelly of Vampy Varnish kept talking about it on twitter so I decided to give it a go. Holy awesomeness. Ok you're really all here to see what nails I've come up with today so let's get to those. :D

What are all these strange symbols you ask? Why they are Synoptic Weather Code Symbols! I am all about Geography and back when I posted my Topographic Map Nails I shared a little bit about what I'm in school for. This is an extension of that! I was chatting with my friend Ashley and she suggested I bust out some Synoptic Weather Codes. Essentially what these are are the symbols that are used on maps to show different kinds of weather. So thanks Ashley for the awesome idea!

Since gradients are a huggeeee trend right now I decided to do a gradient on each nail in colours I thought represented each kind of weather. I'm listing all the polishes used and the type of weather on each nail below!

Thumb - Snow
Sally Hansen White on
Sally Hansen Blue Me Away

Index- Fog
NYC Sidewalkers
Barielle Grade Escape
Cult Nails Mind Control

Middle - Thunderstorm
Essence Wanna Be Your Sunshine
Wet n Wild Black Creme
Wet n Wild Blackmail

Ring - Hurricane
Barielle Swizzle Stix
Barielle Do Unto Others
Barielle Decadence

Pinky - Haze
(colouring because haze particulates come from forest fires)
Essence Wake Up!
China Glaze Vermillion

That was a lot of polishes. I hope you know how much I love you all :)

I created all of the symbols with my trusty black and white Stripe Rite Striper brushes. I've only had these since Christmas but the label has already worn off because I use them so much :)

I'm really enjoying creating these geography themed nails! It's fun to bring something that I do everyday in school and join it with something that I do everyday because I love it :)
I think my Thunderstorm nail turned out the best! The symbol really pops off the yellow to black gradient. Also I kind of love thunderstorms! Whenever there is an awesome storm I like to sit on a porch and watch the magic happen :) Does anybody else like to do this?

What do you think of my Synoptic Weather Code nails? Had you ever heard of Synoptic codes before this? Do you enjoy these type of posts?

Do you ever tie in what you do outside of nail polish into your manicures? I would LOVE to hear how if you do! Any other geography people out there?

I've also added an About Me page! So if you want to learn more about me feel free to wander over there and take a gander :)

Hope you're all having a fabulous Saturday loves! Oh have I mentioned that you are all awesome? Well you are. Aaaaannd I love you all to bits :) <333333 *squishes*

  5. I love merging my "real life" with my nail art! I'm an art/design history student, so it's pretty easy to combine the two lol. I look forward to finding time to recreate more full works on my nails... Someday.
