31DC2013: Day 20 Watermarble

Press Sample Purchased by Me

Good Morning!

Today brings us to the most dreaded day of the challenge, the water marble. I hate this technique. I have never posted any on this blog that I have not been forced into because of a challenge. Don't get me wrong! I have tried, again and again and watched countless videos on how to properly draw a design and I fail. Every. Single Time. I went into this with high hopes! But yet again I cannot draw a design no matter how many times I try!

For this water marble I started off with OPI Skull and Glossbones an off white gray. Then I proceeded to marble with China Glaze Gothic Lolita, China Glaze Passion For Petals as well as Skull and Glossbones. I went about it the usual way, by dropping dots into a shot glass filled with water and then drawing my design in. One nail at a time.

Well I did it. I'm not sure if I like it, I always get frustrated and associate that feeling with watermarbles. At least I didn't cry this time! There have been many times where I have attempted and after hours just stopped lol. SO what are your thoughts on this water marble?! Do you like it?

  1. I feel your pain :( I am a part of this challenge and got so frustrated I did a faux water marble :) So much easier and no stress :) I think of making a tutorial so a few more of us will have some tears spared :)

  2. I hate the water marble- I marbled onto a plastic bag then did a decal for today because I couldn't face taping up my fingers and trying time and again for it just to fail. Yours is good though- you managed to actually get a marble going :)

  3. This is pretty, I really like your color selection! I've never tried a watermarble, it just seems like an exercise in frustration for people who are perfectionists (ahhh-hem....me). Maybe someday, but in the meantime, I'll enjoy checking out the pretty creations that others make with them.

  5. Oh stop, these look great! In my opinion, the beauty of a water marble is that they DON'T look perfect! I love when they're all different. You should give yourself more credit, I've seen (and done) MUCH worse than this!!

  6. I think these look really nice! I also think it's kind of funny how everyone is so frustrated with today's challenge.

  9. I think it's really pretty! The design looks lovely and the colors are gorgeous together!

I have a hard time with water marble. But for me, the issue is more with the polish. I only have about 50 right now (and that's including top coats, glitters etc) so I don't have as much of a range to choose from, and it seems that NONE of the polishes I own are water marble friendly. I love, love, love the water marble designs. I just hate that it's so hit and miss, with no real indication of what types of polishes work best. But I consider it an excuse to rack up a larger supply so I'll have more polishes to works towards a perfect water marble! haha
